Samsung's Bada operating system might soon be folded into Tizen.
According to Korea-based news outlet Yonhap News, Samsung Media Solutions Center head Hong Won-pyo said recently that his company plans to phase out the Bada operating system and focus its software efforts solely on the open-source Tizen OS.
Samsung's Bada operating system has captured a very slim piece of the mobile OS market and the company has put its best products on Android, reflecting that. However, Samsung is now leading the charge with Intel for Tizen to become the alternative of choice for those who don't want to buy iOS or Android. The operating system is open-source and based on Linux. Tizen also fully embraces HTML5.
Earlier today, CNET learned that Samsung plans to launch its first Tizen-based smartphone in July or August. Several smartphones running the operating system are expected to launch sometime this year.
Although Samsung is said to be phasing out Bada and focusing on Tizen, the company will not ditch Android or Windows Phone. For the time being, Samsung will continue on with a three-operating-system strategy.
