Authorities in Ontario are investigating a mysterious small airplane crash that appears to involve a University of Michigan student.
The graduate student, who has not been identified, was last seen Wednesday, March 15, said Diane Brown, spokeswoman for the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security, according to MLive.

He was a Chinese national, reported TB News Watch.

The plane's wreckage was found 11:38pm Wednesday night in a woodsy area of Manitouwadge, about 37.3 miles, east of the town of Marathon, according to a release from the Ontario Provincial Police.
The wreckage was about 460 miles northwest of Ann Arbor Airport by air.
Mysteriously, the student was not in the wreckage, nor was there any sign of anyone around the wreckage, or having walked away from the wreckage, said authorities.
There were no footprints in the surrounding snow. He also did not appear to land at all after take-off and before the crash.

Officials did not find anyone in the nearby area.
Authorities are still not saying what they think might have happened to the student, who is considered missing.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is taking over the crash investigation.
The missing person's case is being handled by the Michigan State Police and the University of Michigan Police Department, said Upnorthlive.
