  • Courtney Black, 20, became an Instagram star after she transformed her body
  • She claims that squat challenges being the answer to killer curves is a myth
  • The personal trainer from East London claims that clever weight training and reducing cardiovascular exercise are the key

Millions of people believe that doing hundreds of squats per day is the secret to getting that Kardashian bottom, but one expert warns that this could be all wrong.

Personal trainer Courtney Black, 20, from East London, became an Instagram star after she transformed her body from skinny to an enviably hourglass shape with a pert posterior.

Fitness model Courtney claims that the widely popular online squat challenges being the answer to get that killer curves are a myth.

The 20-year-old said: 'Ignore the popular squat challenges. There is no way you'll ever get a Kim Kardashian butt by doing 100 squats every day.

'It doesn't make you magically grow a bum as a lot of online challenges will have you believe - all it does is burn some calories.'

So what's the solution to getting that lusted-after hourglass figure? Courtney claims that clever weight training and reducing cardiovascular exercise are the key.

Courtney, who has nearly 150,000 followers on Instagram as a result of her transformation from skinny to curvy, explains: 'Lifting weights and pushing yourself in every session is key to getting that Kim Kardashian or Kylie Jenner shape.

'Growing your legs and upper body whilst keeping your waist slim is what creates that hourglass look.

'You can see from my before and after photos that I don't naturally have a curvy body - achieving an hourglass shape is something I've worked at.

'I'm naturally quite a straight body shape with no curves - so I focus on growing my legs, glutes and my shoulders to give the illusion of a smaller waist.

Courtney's top tips to getting an hourglass shape

1. Eat! You aren't going to get a sculpted and toned bum by living off salad leaves. You need to be fuelling your workouts with nutritious meals. Keep your protein high and place your complex carbs around your workouts.

2. Band it up! Get yourself some resistance bands and use them in your workout. It doesn't matter if they're long or short, resistance bands will up your glute game! Add them to your any exercise e.g. donkey kicks or lunges as the will increase the tension and help you get that hourglass shape.

3. Do your weight training No one gets maximum results from running on a treadmill. You need to be lifting weights to get that curvy Kardashian physique. Growing your legs and upper body whilst keeping you waist slim through weight lifting is what celebs do to create that hourglass shape.

'It's about clever weight training. I recommend doing glute exercises with resistance bands so you really feel the burn and build that booty.

'And you should never use super-heavy weights when doing abdominal exercises to ensure your waist stay small.'

Courtney claims traditional cardiovascular exercise aimed at women, like spinning and running, could be hindering efforts to get that A-list body.

'You will not get maximum results or achieve that nice, sculpted bum from running on a treadmill.

'Women often fear that they'll get too manly or muscular from doing weight training but this could not be further from the truth. But females cannot naturally produce testosterone like men so it's impossible to gain a huge amount of muscle by lifting weights.'

In a previous interview, the Instagram star revealed at one point she weighed less than seven stone and was trolled and told that she looked like she 'was dying'.

But after realising how miserable she was, Courtney decided to embrace her curves.

Courtney said: 'When I was younger, I just wanted to be as skinny as I could.

'I loved long skinny legs and tiny little waists. I lost so much weight that people would comment on my Instagram saying that I looked like I was dying.

'I love my curves now and I'm truly ashamed of how I used to eat and exercise.

'I want to show other people how unnecessary it is to starve yourself or cut out certain food groups from your diet. Put your health first and worry about your image second.'
