Death created a City-Block to Multi-City Block Scale at least Dimension during his fight with Death. Beginning of Game Dante beat him up with an ordinary Halberd, stole his Scythe and killed him with it.

End of Game Dante and Lucifer created an explosion and mushroom cloud together and both tanked it. I have heard this is Town Level.

Did you see the animated film based on the game as well? I found it pretty alright TBH, animation and action was nice albeit the pacing felt weird

Not that often but sometimes...and I had to do this one. The Divine Comedy is my favorite literary work EVER!

I did see it....it was alright although nothing special.

Couple of things.

-It not possible that Gabriel just materialized there? I'm pretty sure angels in the Bible have been described as doing that. The fact that when he left he was just floating up slowly into a cone of light and not visibly preparing to take off or anything seems to suggest as much.

-Not buying that the distance between the place where Dante and Lucifer were standing and the big hole that Lucy tried flying towards was actually the distance between the center of the earth and the surface of the earth. Just by eyeballing you can see that the cavern that they're in isn't particularly wide, at all. It would kinda need to be in order for the exit to appear that big from the very bottom. Either the two of them are giants and there's apparently a country sized hole in the earth that leads to the bowls of hell, or the distance isn't nearly that great.

He floated downwards...if he materialized there would be no reason for him to not just appear there.

It's most likely proportions are just off...that hole clearly has light coming from it....light that looks like nothing in all of Hell. Pardon my saying...but that's clearly supposed to be sunlight.

That's what I was saying. That cone of light he's floating in could be acting as a portal of sorts. And again, if he really was soaring down at mach speeds, you would think there would be some form of indication, whether that be the sound of him swooping down, or him taking some sort of taking off stance before leaving. Not saying that he couldn't have flown down, it just doesn't appear to be the most likely possibility.

I know that it's okay to handwave inconsistencies in artistic proportions, but there are limits. Like, this is a cavern maybe a couple of football fields wide that should be the size country(in order for the exit appear as large as it does from where they're standing. Kind of like how the moon in Donkey Kong Country Returns isn't accepted as being the size of the actual moon because the proportions are so fucked. Also? I looked back further into the video for context. Lucifer says he plans to escape into purgatory, not earth. That light is probably coming from purgatory, so the assumption that the distance between them and the hole is equivalent to the radius of the earth holds even less water.

Not only am I of the reverse opinon, I am of the far reverse opinion. I don't see how you could possibly claim it's teleportation. He clearly is floating downwards when we see him. If he teleported...why didn't he just teleport to Beatrice's Location? Why did he need to float downward AT ALL?

Purgatory is at the Earth's Surface. Both in the actual Divine Comedy where it's a mountain whose base is on Earth and who's Peak is in Heaven and in Dant'es Inferno as seen in the last cutscene of the game. Lucfer was clearly flying towards the light of outside. There is no other logical interpretation.

Descending from the portal? What else would would the cone of light be for? I looked up examples of other angels from the game and they don't seem to normally have that light around them. Plus it wasn't emanating from him, it was emanating from something above him.

Then the most logical interpretation is that the final circle of Hell isn't nearly as deep in the Earth as it's described as being in the original poem. The proportions are way too messed up to disregard as a simple oversight on the game designers parts.

Why did he float downward at all though? Why did he not just teleport right behind her. There was no need to float downward AT ALL if he just teleport there.

What other Angels in-game? There is a Saint (St. Lucia) and there is the fallen angels which hardly count. Also why would he descend from a portal? Again if he was teleporting, why not just teleport near enough to her. Why would he need to float downward AT ALL?

But Hell is Clearly Far Far Far larger then that cavern looks to the eye...I mean some of the rings of Hell had skys to them and everything.

Yeah I meant St. Lucia. I looked up some screenshots and there's no beam of light surrounding her like there was Gabriel.

...why wouldn't he? The point of a portal is that you physically move in and out of it. That and it could be for dramatic effect. Also, like I said, it doesn't really matter where he physically is in relation to her since he doesn't even need to touch her to move her. There was clearly something above him emanating light, seems perfectly reasonable to assume that it's an entrance to heaven.

I don't know about that. How much larger? Does it come anywhere close to the radius of the earth? Another thing to consider is that the light shining from the exit could have been a portalcatprone) to purgatory, which would solve any issues with the proportions of the cavern. I mean, Dante ended up being teleported to Purgatory anyway, so it's not exactly an unreasonable thing to consider.

The wiki is inaccurate and has a bad tendency to try and wank the series. St. Lucia...is a Saint, not an angel. Nowhere in the DLC is she called an angel.

No, that's not reasonable to assume. Think about it. He moved her without touching her but he clearly needs to be in range. If he could teleport he would just teleport to where he would be in range from. HE could literally RIGHT BEHIND HER in that case. There is no reason to show him moving down unless he was physically traveling. If he opened up a portal, why would he need to make it above so he needs to move down. Why he couldn't just make it right next to her so he doesn't have to move.

A: That doesn't look at all like a portal
B (Way more important): Lucifer can't open a portal to Heaven. If he could, he wouldn't have needed to fly upwards or fight Dante at all. He could have just portaled to Purgatory in the first place. The only reason Dante was transported there was because he was absolved of his sin by the souls he had freed throughout the course of the game.

I know the proportions look super weird...but that is the only logical explanation...I've thought through this quite intensely before I made this blog post.

Okay. Although, correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't seem implausible that she might be one. After all, from what I've seen many of the games bosses are actually humans turned into demons.

Right behind her, right beside her, right above her, what's the difference? It doesn't appear that Gabriel was in a particularly huge hurry to retrieve her soul. You act like whether or not the act of retrieving her soul took five seconds or eight seconds is of some grand importance. If he made a portal right next to her, he would still presumably have to physically move out of the portal, only he would be moving horizontally instead of vertically. I could make the same argument you're making in that situation except in reverse. And again, there's definitely something above Gabriel emanating light. What's producing that light?

The criteria for looking like a portal is pretty broad. It's a giant blob of light at the end of a cave, there's no reason for why it couldn't be.

I never claimed it was Lucifer who opened it. He couldn't reach it before because he was chained down. Taking into account the massively fucked up proportions of the cavern, the portal hypothesis makes a lot more sense than the alternative.

Um...I don't know where're you getting that interpretation from. The Demons are Fallen Angels. You face actual Humans in Hell and they look nothing like demons.

Again,..WHY though? Why would he take extra time FOR NO REASON. It does not matter if he is not in a hurry. There is no reason at all for him to not just teleport there to her instead of teleporting above and have to travel downwards. He didn't teleport. NOTHING about sequence implies he teleports. That light is not from a portal, it's him coming down from heaven. There is nothing suggesting it's from a portal. You need more evidence if you want to claim it's from a portal and he didn't just travel there. I don't think it's even shown they can teleport so you're making assumption saying they just can.

No it REALLY does't. The Portal "hypothesis" has NO Backing. There is no reason a portal would be above him. If he didn't create it where did it come from. This is opening so many questions and problems. He was just flying outside of Hell into Purgatory. That's what it's trying to present. There is nothing about the scene suggesting any teleportation or any portals.

What difference does a couple of second make? None. There are tons of examples in fiction when actions aren't taken with pure efficiency in mind. It can be due to plot convenience or as it probably is in this case, for the sake of dramatic effect.

Right. But then how could light that comes all the way from heaven reach down into the bowels of hell. They were in a dark cavern far below the earth, it clearly wasn't emanating from him directly, and there's nowhere else it could be coming from. Unless course...there was a portal.

Also we at least know teleportation is a thing, since Dante was teleported at the end of the game. What's unreasonable about assuming that an archangel like Gabriel could achieve a similar feat?

There's also no reason for why there would be a nearly 4000 mile deep hole on the surface of the earth leading directly to the domain of the Devil himself. Where did this giant hole that has no reason to exist come from? One way or another there is an exit right above him. The difference is that your interpretation doesn't make sense with what we see on screen, and mine does.
