Transnistria announces GDP forecast
RBC, 28.01.2005, Chisinau 09:26:22.Transnistria is planning to achieve a 5-percent increase in its GDP in 2005, the Economy Ministry of the breakaway republic reported to RBC. The ministry added that the GDP estimate for this year was about $420m. The main growth factors are expected to be a rise in output in the major economic sectors and development of the services sector. Furthermore, Transnistria is going to increase its industrial output by 7 percent to $675m in 2005. The estimated growth rates for fixed capital investments and retail sales are 16 percent and 15 percent respectively. Additionally, the inflation rate should be decreased from 25 percent in 2004 to 17 percent in 2005 by means of containing growth in foods prices. In 2005, Transnistria is hoping to reduce its foreign trade deficit to $100m. The Economy Ministry has forecasted that exports would total $550m this year, and imports would amount to $650m.
