Hi I'm Ayla

I'm a mother, a wife, a theology scholar and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a stay-at-home mother, wife, blogger, writer and theology scholar. I have three boys, all born-at-home (2003, 2007 and 2009). I attachment parent, cloth diaper, practice elimination communication, extended breastfeeding and we home school. My family and I follow a healthy, traditional foods diet of local, organic fruits, nuts and veggies along with grass fed meat and dairy. I love being a mom! I honestly love cooking healthy, tasty meals for my family and cleaning our home with love and tenderness. My husband is a gardener. I love his job! He often brings home flowers he has grown himself, just for me! I am a theology scholar and writer. I have an International Studies certificate in German and French, a Bachelor's degree in German with a minor in Anthropology as well as a Master's degree in Women's Spirituality. You could say I like school - a lot! My hobbies and interests include knitting, reading, gardening, water color painting, photography, and thrift shopping for vintage clothes and home decor.

Why I am a Mormon

I have a strong and ever growing testimony of the gospel. Every time life hands me a well earned pearl of wisdom from my successes (and failures) it always verifies what the Church is teaching. Family is the heart of our experience here on earth. Happiness comes from serving in our home and communities, following Christ's example of love. A lot of religions pay lip service to the family, to the example Christ set for us and to the wonderful blessings that come from service but His true church is the only one that I have seen actually act on and be successful at living up to those standards. It's amazing how quickly and directly my prayers are answered since I've joined the church. It's as though I walk in a bright beam of light which warms me and guides me even when the world around me is dark.

How I live my faith

By being a positive, joyful, loving mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. I try to live as Christ taught us and be an example to others of His mercy and love. No matter how tired I may be, no matter how busy, Christ is always there with me through the power of the Holy Ghost giving me strength and hope that I can share with others.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

It is a health code given to the Prophet Joseph Smith from the Lord regarding the health of members of the Church. It directs us to treat our bodies as Temples. We should not consume coffee, tea (except herbal), alcoholic beverages, narcotics or refined grains. We are urged to eat meat sparingly and to eat fruits, veggies and herbs seasonally. I personally believe that the Lord foresaw a day when many people would be addicted to liquor, coffee, and soda. He warned us against this and the LDS members who chose to follow this advice are healthier for it, mind, body and soul. Show more Show less
