Billie Lourd and her boyfriend Taylor Lautner enjoy smitten poppy field date... as it's revealed she isn't looking after her late mother Carrie Fisher's beloved French bulldog Gary

She chose not to attend the public memorial service in honor of her late mother Carrie Fisher and grandmother Debbie Reynolds on Saturday.

Instead Billie Lourd, 24, has been spending time with boyfriend Taylor Lautner, 25, and the pair enjoyed a day date in a poppy field on Monday.

The Scream Queens star and her beau documented their trip on social media and couldn't have looked more loved-up as they cuddled up together for a series of selfies.

Sporting windswept locks, she affectionately held onto her boyfriend's neck as Taylor held up an orange poppy to his nose.

Sharing a series of poppy puns next to her photo, Billie captioned her Instagram post: '#itspoppyingoff in tha #selfields.'

It has since been liked over 98,000 times and many fans made sure to comment on the post, complimenting the couple on how well they suit.

In the days following Carrie's death it had been said by the Fisher family that Billie would be taking in her mother's pet pup as Gary has a close relationship with her own dog Tina.

However, it has since been revealed that Carrie's dog Gary - who has his own Twitter account thanks to one of Carrie's fans - is actually living with the assistant of the Hollywood veteran Corby McCoin.

According to TMZ, Corby felt it was the 'right thing to do' to take Gary in as she had spent plenty of time with the dog while she was by Carrie's side.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, a public memorial service was hosted in honour of Billie's mother and her grandmother Debbie passing - they had died within a day of each other in December last year.

Billie, however, chose not to attend - despite reports claiming she was considering performing a song in tribute to her loved ones.

She instead spent time with Taylor and her father Bryan Lourd and the trio headed to Catch in Los Angeles for dinner, according to the New York Post's Page Six

The starlet decided to skip the public event at Forest Lawn cemetery in LA where her family members had been laid to rest in January.

Meanwhile, at the service, Carrie's brother and Billie's uncle Todd Fisher described his mother Debbie's passing as a 'beautiful exit.'

He said: 'When Carrie died, my mother decided to change her plans a bit. My mother always said to me, "I never want to go to my daughter's funeral service. I would like to be buried with Carrie."'

Although, he admitted he had never expected his mother to pass away so suddenly.

'I didn't know she was going to leave us that very next day,' he added.

'When she looked at me to ask permission to leave, she said she wanted to be with Carrie, and she closed her eyes and went to sleep. It was a beautiful exit.'

The memorial had included a tribute song written by singer James Blunt - a close friend of Carrie's.

James hadn't attended the service, but the song had been accompanied by a video montage as it played.

Todd, meanwhile, has revealed why he chose to make the memorial - that was also live streamed on Debbie's website - for his mum and sister public, explaining that his mother would have wanted her fans to be involved with the service.

He said: 'The public is invited because that's how my mother would want it.

'She was very connected to her fans and felt they were a part of her, so we're opening it to the public.'

He also said he had understood Billie's decision not to attend the memorial over the weekend.

Todd claimed that his niece 'needs to step back' from the devastating loss of her mother and grandmother.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, he said: 'There's a vacuum in the room and she's feeling it... we're all feeling it.

'I'm letting [Billie] breathe, you know? She needs to breathe. She needs to step back from all of this loss.'

Star Wars actress Carrie, 60, died in Los Angeles on December 27, after suffering a cardiac arrest while on a flight home from London four days earlier.

A day later, Debbie passed away from a 'broken heart' on December 28.
