Johnny, is that you? Depp, 53, looks gaunt and drawn as he attends Lady Gaga's intimate 31st birthday bash

A testing 12-months appeared to have taken their toll as Hollywood veteran Johnny Depp helped Lady Gaga celebrate her 31st birthday on Tuesday evening.

The celebrated actor, 53, revealed a markedly thinner frame as he made his way into Los Angeles restaurant Gjelina for an intimate dinner with the outlandish singer and a select group of her closest friends.

Accompanied by a security guard, Depp looked typically edgy in a battered leather jacket and black jeans ahead of the celebratory bash.

Scuffed biker boots and an obligatory cap rounded off the actor’s casual ensemble, while his eyes remained shielded behind a pair of heavily tinted sunglasses. 

But it was Depp’s thinner features that caught the eye as he prepared to join guests including pop legend Sir Elton John, 70, at the Venice Beach venue.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star was stepping out two months after his acrimonious divorce from actress Amber Heard was finalised at Los Angeles Supreme Court in January.

Depp and Heard originally reached a divorce settlement in August – 12-months after exchanging vows - with the actress in line to receive $6.8million, which she said she was donating to charity.

With the dust finally settled on Depp's troubles, the actor had good company in the form of Sir Elton and his filmmaker husband David Furnish, 54. 

The couple were in high spirits as they made an exit from he venue with the oldest of their two sons, six-year old Zachary, after helping close friend Gaga usher in her birthday.

Sir Elton looked relaxed in a casual tracksuit and trainers ensemble as he carefully guided Zachary into the rear of their waiting car.  

Meanwhile Furnish looked comparatively smart in a cropped black jacket, skinny jeans and a pair of distinctive Gucci boots.

Gaga marked her 31st birthday on Tuesday by revealing her new glossy dark tresses in an Instagram post. 

The Poker Face star shared a sexy selfie, and heartfelt message for her fans - playfully referred to as Little Monsters. 

Captioning the shot, she wrote: 'I don't know how to thank my fans enough for the love you have shown me over the years and always on my birthday.
