She's become known as one of Hollywood's many politically outspoken stars, and was seen stumping for US President Barack Obama as he vied for re-election in 2012.

And Scarlett Johansson, 32, has now revealed that she's eyeing the possibility of one day embarking on a political career of her own - just not in the immediate future.

The mother-of-one told Good Morning America's Michael Strahan: 'I’ve always been interested in local politics. Right now, I think with my young daughter and also [the way] my career’s going right now, it’s not the right time.

'Eventually, maybe when my daughter is older and I could totally focus myself on something like that, I think it could be interesting.'

Scarlett, who is currently in the midst of a custody battle with estranged husband Romain Dauriac over their two-year-old daughter Rose, recently vowed to continue being politically outspoken.

She told People: 'I don’t plan on not using my voice any time soon. I’ve always been politically active. My parents… my grandmother always encouraged us to be involved.'

Of any possible criticism she may face as a result, she added: 'You put yourself kinda out there and people will have something to say about it, and that’s OK.'

Earlier this month, Scarlett skewered Ivanka Trump - daughter of US President Donaldn Trump in a biting sketch on Saturday Night Live.

Slipping into character, the Hollywood actress waltzed her way through a fake perfume ad for the fictitious fragrance Complicit.

Sold as a fragrance 'for the woman who could stop all of this but won't', the skit lanced Ivanka for alleged hypocrisy in claiming to support a liberal agenda while standing next to her father as he follows another course.

During the glossy sketch, Scarlett walked through a lavish ballroom as all heads turned to look at her in apparent admiration.

A deep voiceover then boomed: 'Every man knows her name, every woman knows her face. When she walks into a room, all eyes are on her, she's Ivanka. She's beautiful, she's powerful, she's complicit.'

This referred to her father's infamous 'p****gate' incident when he traded stories of sexual conquests with former Access Hollywood host Billy Bush.

Scarlett's Ivanka then stared at herself in a mirror as she applied lipstick, seeing Alec Baldwin's President Trump reflected back to her with the commentary: 'She doesn't crave the spotlight, but we see her, oh how we see her.'

Sketch writers also took one last shot at her towards the end, with the voiceover saying: 'When she watches Titanic she thinks she's Rose, (but) sorry girl, you're Billy Zane.'

And just in case viewers forget about Trump's equally 'complicit' counterpart, the skit tacks on one last punch: 'Also available in a cologne for Jared,' referring to Ivanka's husband Jared Kushner, who served as his father-in-law's senior adviser.
