'More money than sense!': Viewers slam Susanna Reid's new budget cookery show for focusing on a middle-class family who spend £170 a WEEK on food
- Save Money: Good Food teaches families to prepare tasty meals for under £5
- But viewers were left aghast as it was revealed that parents Amy and Manoj spent £170 a week on their food shop - questioning whether they needed help
- It's the first foray into cookery for daytime TV host Susanna Reid, 46
It's been billed as a budget cookery show aimed at cash-strapped households seeking to cut down on their weekly food spending.
But viewers have slammed Susanna Reid's new food programme for catering to middle-class families on 'high-end' incomes.
ITV's Save Money: Good Food saw the mother-of-three team up with TV chef Matt Tebbutt to dish out advice to a family of four on how to prepare tasty, good-quality meals for under £5.
However viewers were left aghast as it was revealed that Amy and Manoj, who are from Yorkshire and are parents to two young children, spend an average of £170 a week on their food shop - despite the couple's initial estimation of between £70 and £100.

It was also revealed that the couple had no idea of the contents of their kitchen cupboards, while unused vegetables were going off in the bin.
'More money than sense,' one viewer blasted on Twitter, while another suggested the family 'don't need to go on a show about spending'.
Some were stunned that the family had 'no idea' what their weekly budget was, with one blasting producers for picking a 'high end income family'.
And some complained that the programme should have focused on low-income families who would benefit more from the advice.
Susanna and Matt's money-saving tips are based on consumer research into the real daily challenges facing family food budgets.
According to a survey carried out by the programme, 70 percent of Brits expected their grocery bills to rise post-Brexit. The average family throws away a shocking six meals a week – that’s £12.5 billion of food waste.
The new eight-part series is the first foray into cooking for Strictly runner-up Susanna, 46, who is best known for co-hosting Good Morning Britain with Piers Morgan - who also tweeted his support ahead of the show on Tuesday night.
She teamed up with Saturday Kitchen chef Matt, 43, a regular face on cookery shows who has worked with Marco Pierre White and is the current presenter of Food Unwrapped.

Speaking ahead of the programme, Susanna said: 'It's a challenge families face daily, thinking up the week's food menu and how to make them continually interesting whilst shopping within a budget.
'Matt is a great cook and I'm delighted to be working with him.'
Matt added: 'I love to inspire people to cook, healthy, affordable and tasty food. I am really excited to be getting creative with Susanna and helping people cook easy everyday dishes for the whole family to enjoy.'
Speaking about her new show on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, Susanna explained: 'Food is our highest weekly household expense but we're throwing away too much of it.

'We need tips on how to shop smarter, how to cook smarter. So eight lovely families have asked for some help to cut their food bills, so me and Matt Tebutt gatecrash their kitchens, raid their cuboards, their kitchens, their freezers, and even their bins and then cook them up a feast with what we find.'

The show returns to ITV next Tuesday at 8pm
