Woman is branded 'rude and disrespectful' for turning up to a relative's nuptials in the outfit she'd already worn at two previous family weddings

  • Woman took to Mumsnet, explaining she was bewildered by cousin's reaction
  • Her mother also agreed she'd committed a faux pas
  • But users blasted cousin saying she was the one being rude and sexist
  • However, some admitted they would avoid wearing same outfit twice

From demanding that guests spend thousands jetting out to an exotic location to complaining about wedding gifts not being lavish enough, there's certainly on shortage of bridezilla horror stories.

But it seems that wedding guests can be just as difficult, according to one woman who was blasted by her cousin for turning up to a relative's wedding in the same outfit she'd already worn at two previous family nuptials.

The bewildered guest took to Mumsnet to ask if she'd unwittingly committed a huge faux pas, and was met with a resounding no from fellow users.

However, some admitted that they wouldn't wear an outfit twice if they were attending an event with the same guests.

To make matters worse for the wedding guest, she explained that her own mother had taken the cousin's side when she asked for her point of view.

However, the vast majority of posters agreed with her pointing out that it's expensive to keep buying new outfits when you have a lot of weddings to attend.

Others mentioned how it's bad for the environment to continually buy new clothes and discard things you've only worn a handful of time.

And plenty thought it was a sexist attitude that men don't encounter when they turn up in a suit they've worn countless times before.

However, one woman pointed out that if you're a family member and end up in the formal photos it might be better to have different outfits.

Others said that while they thought the woman's cousin was wrong to take such a hard line, they felt that it's respectful to the person whose special day it is to make the effort to turn up in a new outfit.
