A red dress for the red carpet! Duchess of Cambridge stuns in a crimson gown at the West End opening night of Broadway musical

  • The Duchess, 35, attended the opening night of the musical 42nd Street at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane
  • The stage show's West End revival is helping to raise money for East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH)
  • Kate, who has been Patron of the charity since 2012, is helping raise money for a new hospice in Norfolk
  • Scottish singer Sheena Easton is making her West End debut in the classic musical tonight

The Duchess of Cambridge brought a touch of glamour to the red carpet on Tuesday evening as she joined a host of stars for the opening night of the musical 42nd Street in London.

Kate, 35, stunned in a crimson £1,105 Marchesa dress at the West End revival of the Broadway hit at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in her role as Royal Patron of East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH), for Sheena Easton's much-anticipated West End debut.

She teamed the full-skirted Notte tulle gown with a jewelled belt, maroon heels and a clutch bag, wearing her hair loose and adding a pair of Oscar de la Renta earrings.

The Duchess has been stepping out in a series of conservative ensembles of late, and tonight was no exception with the royal flashing just a hint of ankle while a mesh overlay kept her décolletage covered up.

The stage show, which stars Grammy award-winning singer Easton, is helping to raise money for the charity as funds are required for a vital new purpose-built hospice in Norfolk called The Nook.

Be a lady in red like the Duchess in Marchesa Notte

The Duchess Of Cambridge looked incredibly chic as she stepped out to the opening night of 42nd Street, wearing a regal red dress by Marchesa Notte.

It's the first time we've spotted Kate in this beautiful dress, featuring a lattice pattern, rosette motif, fit-and-flare design and a crystal-embellished waist.

We're not surprised this gorgeous dress is the work of Marchesa Notte. After all, it's the off-shoot brand of luxury bridal and eveningwear label Marchesa, founded by Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig.

The Duchess continued the red theme of the night's ensemble by accessorizing with some maroon heels, plus some dramatic red earrings by Oscar De La Renta, which finished the look off with a fashionable flourish.

If you're a fan of the Duchess's look then the great news is this dress is currently available to buy from Net-a-Porter, so click right to make like Kate and get it for yourself.

Or alternatively channel her look for less with our doppelgänger picks below. This Erin Fetherston version is a dead ringer for the original and costs just under $200!

Three years ago, pale, puffy-faced and fragile, Sheena Easton was virtually unrecognisable as she was led out of a medical clinic in a wheelchair.

Now, standing proud in high heels and beaming broadly in a figure-hugging frock, the Scottish-born singer looked like a different woman as she makes her West End debut in front of a host of stars including the Duchess of Cambridge.

The 57-year-old - who made her name after starring in 1980 BBC reality show The Big Time - takes on a starring role in the new production of 42nd Street.

Speaking last year, Miss Easton, who was romantically linked to pop legend Prince in the 1980s, said: 'It is the perfect role for me. At my age great roles aren't written every day.'

In an interview with website What's On Stage, she added: 'It's one of the great complaints of a woman over 40 that there are a lot less roles out there. This is one of the few roles that made me want to come back to do eight shows a week in the theatre.' Her appearance comes three years after she was pictured emerging from a dental centre in Las Vegas, make-up free and being pushed around in a wheelchair.

The Grammy Award-winning singer plays the role of Broadway star Dorothy Brock in the 42nd Street revival. The new show will be directed by its co-author Mark Bramble. Miss Easton's career spans four decades and she has sold over 20million records worldwide. Her most famous songs include 9 to 5, We've Got Tonight (with Kenny Rogers) and U Got The Look, a duet with Prince.

The Duchess is famously passionate about supporting children's hospices and chose EACH as one of her first four royal patronages after becoming an HRH.

Their specialist services include nursing care, symptom management support, wellbeing activities, and therapy and counselling – all meeting the individual needs of the child or young person, and the whole family.

EACH has outgrown its hospice at Quidenham in Norfolk and is currently fundraising for its new purpose-built hospice, The Nook.

The new building will help to provide more families with the same facilities as those offered by EACH hospices for Cambridgeshire, Essex and Suffolk.

Kate helped to launch the appeal in 2014 and in January visited Quidenham to meet with staff and families for an update on the appeal and plans for the new hospice.

Michael Linnit and Michael Grade, together with The Global Group of Companies for Gate Ventures, are supporting the EACH Nook Appeal on the Opening Night of 42nd Street.

The charity has already been pledged a gift of £250,000 towards the appeal from one generous donor, according to EACH's website.

Executive Producer of 42nd Street, Dr Johnny Hon said: 'We are delighted to support the nook appeal on the opening night of 42nd Street and we are honoured to be joined by the Duchess of Cambridge as the charity’s Royal Patron.'

EACH's Chief Executive Graham Butland added: 'We are very much looking forward to welcoming Her Royal Highness at the Theatre Royal for what I’m sure will be an exceptional evening for the nook appeal.'

He added: 'This is an amazing opportunity for EACH and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has worked so hard to make our involvement possible, including Dr Johnny Hon, Lord Michael Grade, Michael Linnit, Geoff Morrow and all their colleagues – not forgetting the incredible cast!

'It is fantastic that we have already received a very generous donation and we hope that during the evening the audience will help us raise even more money to make our vision a reality – it would be wonderful if with the support of everyone involved we could reach £420,000!

'The Nook appeal will transform children’s palliative care across Norfolk but we still have some way to go, which is why we are so excited to be embarking on a relationship with the whole team at 42nd Street.'

In a letter of support for Children's Hospice Week last year, Kate, in her role as patron of EACH, said hospices and palliative care charities offered a lifeline to parents and youngsters facing the most 'difficult times imaginable'.

The mother-of-two said: 'Spending quality time together is such an important aspect of family life, but for those caring for children with life-limiting conditions, even this simple act can prove to be incredibly challenging.

'The practical realities of providing round-the-clock care mean even activities that so many of us take for granted can be just too complicated.

'The amazing and life-changing support provided by children's hospices and palliative care charities across the UK offers a lifeline to families under incredible pressure.

'This support gives these families the space they need to simply spend time together, which is so important in the most difficult times imaginable.'
