The episode saw the loving couple flick through old photos of their special day, with Berry revealing that her dress cost just £5.

And already quite the baker, she even made her own wedding cake- a classic white two-tier with flower embellishments.

‘My dress was bought in the sale- £5 you know, bargain wasn’t it?’, she asked her cooing husband as he complimented how ‘slim and stylish’ she looked.

‘I baked my wedding cake myself- I’ve always loved baking for special occasions. On the morning of the wedding I was decorating the cake with my best friend and I went into the garden and picked up some of the greenery and placed it all the way around the cake’s two layers,' Mary reminisced.

'Weddings in those days were so different from weddings now. We had about a hundred people and what was a bit like an army tent.

'We had sandwiches and that for tea and at 5pm we were off on our honeymoon to Shipton-under-Wychwood. Three days in the rain and my husband wanted to learn fishing. We’ve had some smashing holidays since but that wasn’t memorable.’

Mary previously revealed to MailOnline that the honeymoon to follow was to be a rather dreary one, and she's in fact still waiting for her exotic vacation.

'We spent our honeymoon in the Cotswolds. Because I was working so hard, I could take only three days off — and it rained for every single one of them,' she told us.

'And Paul had decided he’d like to take up fishing, so we spent a great deal of time shivering on a rainy river bank. I’m still waiting for my really hot, luxurious honeymoon!'

Meanwhile on the show- a golden wedding anniversary-themed special, Berry looked back fondly over their years together as they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

'I'm very happy and it was for better for worse for richer for poorer and we've had some wonderful times,' Berry concluded happily.

Mary also admitted on the show that it took a bit of persuading before she let him seal the deal.

Speaking on the show she defended her move to reject his first proposal, explaining: 'I do remember the first proposal and I think you were drunk.'

But Paul wasn't prepared to shoulder the blame without defence, hitting back with: 'Well I might have been. It's a big step. You don't go into something like that without a bit of fortification.'

'I think you had too much and I can remember telling you you were drunk and thinking, 'I'm not going to have anything to do with this man'. But you did come back,' she laughed, fondly remembering the beginning of their relationship.

And it appears Mary was not an easy woman to lock down, turning her despairing suitor down for a second time too.

But Paul put his foot down the third time, revealing: 'Third time I think I said from memory, 'I can't go on like this',he said.

'I said, 'I'm getting on in age, so either it's yes or no'.'

And so the deal was finally sealed.
