Zach Braff revealed Wednesday that his Going in Style star, Sir Michael Caine, once tried to play matchmaker with him and Nicole Scherzinger at a London restaurant.

'Everyone is looking to set me up with people,' the eligible actor-director - who turns 42 on Thursday - said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

'I'd never met her before. [The 84-year-old Englishman] was like, "I know her! You want me to set you up with her?" I was like, "Yeah you can set me up with her. You're Michael Caine, you've got to be a pretty decent wingman." And it turns out he was a horrible wingman.'

The three-time Golden Globe nominee continued: 'He's like, "Nicole! Come over here!" And she comes over, and he's like, "I'm watching you two! I see what's happening!" And I'm like, "This is really not going well." So no it didn't work out. She's very sweet and very beautiful but Michael Caine turned out to be a horrible wingman.'

When he's not romancing models, Zach is so single an Instagram snap of the contents of his bachelor fridge on March 10 greatly amused Ellen, who called it the 'saddest thing.'

'I put that on Instagram and it's not a bit. That's what my fridge looks like. It's funny,' the In Dubious Battle actor admitted.

'My stepmother got so upset she came over and brought all this food over. I'm like, "But I'm working so much I'm never home because I'm really busy." So she filled my fridge and the whole time I'm thinking, "She's being so sweet, but I'm never going to eat all this."'
