The Greatest Showman is Hugh's first musical since Les Miserables in 2012, and he has said that it has been his dream project since 2009.

The story follows the life of P.T. Barnum, a circus impresario, with songs and music from Justin Paul and Benj Pasek, who wrote the score for the Oscar-winning La La Land.

The movie is set to be a slightly less kinetic Moulin Rouge, with plenty of requisite bright colours and elaborate song and dance numbers.

Jackman was in Las Vegas to introduce the trailer last week, calling the film, which has been in the making for seven years, a pop period piece of hyper-reality.

The film is also set to feature Zac Efron and fellow ex-Disney star Zendaya as his love interest.

It will be Efron's fifth musical film since the High School Musical trilogy and Hairspray.
