NBC must like what they see when it comes to the Will & Grace revival, because the network has just added an additional two episodes to the upcoming series.

According to Deadline, the original 10-episode TV special will now be stretched out to 12 new episodes of the hit '90s and '00s comedy series.

It was first revealed back in January that NBC had ordered a renewal of the beloved TV show, shortly after original cast members Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes reunited for a 10-minute special mini-episode in September last year.

But according to Debra, 48, the network had no idea they were even collaborating on the now viral special, which focused on November's US presidential election.

'The four of us got together and had dinner and looked around the table and we were like, "What do you think?" and we all unanimously felt we needed to laugh and we wanted more than anything to make other people laugh right now with the state of our country, the state of our world, the chaos, the fear and the confusion,' the redheaded actress explained to E! Online.

'We thought, you know what, we have so much to say in the only way we can say it, which is always putting the funny first but also always commenting on what is happening in politics and pop culture and social norms.'

And with the chemistry still electric between the tight-knit cast, fans went wild for the mini-episode, prompting NBC to revive the hit series.

The original series, which aired from 1998 until 2006, centered around slightly neurotic Grace (Debra Messing), her gay best friend and roommate Will (Eric McCormack), and their eccentric friends - flamboyant Jack (Sean Hayes) and the pill popping socialite Karen (Megan Mullally).

Speaking of the now classic series, Debra admitted they never expected it to become so popular - especially given it was one of the first TV series to feature an openly gay lead character.

'When we filmed the pilot we knew that it was risky and we felt very deeply that it was an extraordinary pilot and the writing was beyond hilarious,' she added to E! Online.

'But we all looked around and said, "We could be cancelled after three episodes...[because] America may not be ready for this show." As you know, Ellen DeGeneres' [sitcom] had just gone off the air. We just didn't know."

While no release date for the new series has been revealed as yet, shooting for the show will begin in August.

And Debra maintains fans of the original series won't be left disappointed.

'I've been assured by our brilliant show creators that they have very quickly and magically created a universe in which we're all back together,' she added.
