He's the Hollywood star who has scored impressive roles alongside Tom Cruise, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger in major action flicks over the past five years.

But looking the part of an action hero hasn't come easy for Jai Courtney, who this week revealed the strict exercise and diet regimen he follows to get in shape for these roles.

On Friday, the Australian hunk, 31, told The Daily Telegraph that he 'hated' the diet to which he adhered in preparation for his role in Terminator Genisys alongside the chiseled Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Speaking to the publication about his role, he said: 'I pretty much spent six weeks walking uphill on a treadmill and eating salmon around the clock... I was probably eating close to half a kilo of salmon a day. It’s like, strict.'

The actor adamantly stated: 'I hated that diet, it was torture. You go nuts, don’t ya? You lose your mind.'

Among other calorie-controlled diets, Jai says he's had to eat nut butters and protein shakes every few hours to get ripped.

The Suicide Squad star claims when he's between films he happily indulges in plenty of pizza.

'When it’s time to switch off, you’ve just got to get the things in that you’re missing out on. I’m obviously a fan of cold beer... I’m just a fan of the sandwich, in all forms. Things between bread make me happy,' the former model said.

In many of his roles, Jai has showcased his bulging biceps and muscular torso shirtless or in tank tops and armored gear.

Jai in currently in Sydney to attend Saturday's $4 million Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes race day.

On Friday he posted a picture of Sydney Harbour to Instagram, writing: 'Sydney, you gorgeous m'fker.'

Courtney's stunning blonde girlfriend Mecki Dent has also been spotted with the Hollywood star in Sydney.

Jai and Mecki made their red carpet debut in August last year at the New York premiere of Suicide Squad.
