'It brought her to tears': 'Emotional Cheryl touched' after Ashley Cole wished her and Liam Payne 'only happiness' following the birth of their first child

They were married for four years before divorcing in 2010 amid cheating allegations. 

But it appears any bad blood is truly under the bridge between Cheryl and Ashley Cole, after the footballer reportedly reached out to congratulate his ex on the birth of her son. 

The 36-year-old LA Galaxy player is said to have reached out to the 33-year-old former Girls Aloud Star, who welcomed her first child with boyfriend Liam Payne, 23, last month.

A source told Closer magazine: '(He) wished Cheryl and Liam only happiness in their future'.

'He told Cheryl how lucky her son is to have her and he always knew she'd make an amazing mum.'

Ashley and Cheryl split in 2010 following four years of marriage after the footballer cheated on the pop starlet. 

But both have since moved on quietly, with Cheryl and Liam starting a relationship at the end of 2016, and Ashley welcoming his first son with girlfriend Sharon Canu in February last year. 

Although Ashley and Sharon keep their private life out of the spotlight, he recently posted a gushing message on his boy's first birthday.

Taking to Instagram in February he wrote: 'I've been incredibly fortunate to have most things I've wanted in life: Cars, houses, watches, clothes.

'Coming from East London with not a lot growing up, and a mum looking after two boys alone, life wasn't easy. So of course it's easy to lose your way in life sometimes – to forget about the things that are most important.

'Every day I wake up to the most beautiful thing I could dream of: A son that makes my heart melt, a son that never stops smiling, a son that can make me laugh no matter what kind of mood I'm in, a son that I'm proud of, a son I watch fall asleep because I never want to leave him, a son who reminded me what's most important in life.'

Meanwhile Cheryl and Liam confirmed the birth of their son on Saturday March 25, ahead of a family-filled Mother's Day on the Sunday.

The Geordie singer wrote shared a snap of her beau Liam cradling the newborn, writing: 'On Wednesday 22nd March Liam and I became parents to an incredibly beautiful, healthy baby boy, weighing 7lb 9 and looking like a dream.'

'Although he still doesn't have a name he is already stealing hearts. We are all madly in love and overwhelmingly happy with our little arrival.'

'Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers around the world. A day that now has a different meaning to me forever.'

Liam then took to his own Instagram to share the same snap, writing a touching tribute to Cheryl beside the same candid image.
