'Goodbye Girls!' Lena Dunham pays tribute to Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet after revealing they won't appear in series finale

They've been sharing laughs together on Girls for the past six seasons on their journey to womanhood.

But for the comedy-drama's co-stars Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet, their time has already ended one week ahead of the series finale, Lena Dunham revealed on Saturday in a tribute.

'Last night was their final episode of Girls,' Lena wrote on Instagram. 'No words for how we'll miss writing for them, watching them, working alongside them #JessaAndShoshForever #CousinLove #ThankYou #GoodbyeGirls'

Lena, the show's star and creator, continued to honor the actresses for their on-screen chemistry. Jemima and Zosia portray cousins Jessa and Shoshanna, respectively.

'From the first day we paired them together in fall 2010, we knew these two TV cousins had something kinetic,' Lena explained in the photo caption, which was later deleted.

'And it's true- even when they were battling, Jessa (Jemima) & Shoshanna (Zosia) had this insane Hepburn/Tracy Laverne/Shirley energy that just made us laugh so hard and feel so much.'

During the penultimate episode that aired over the weekend, Shoshanna revealed she's engaged to a mystery man, who has not appeared on the series in the past, and Jessa apologized for 'everything' to Lena's character Hannah, who ends the show pregnant from a one-night stand.

In 2013, creator-writer-star Lena earned a Golden Globe award in the Best Actress category, and the comedy triumphed as the Best Television Series. That same year Time magazine ranked her among its list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
