Hughes set to sign for Cherries

Former Scotland international Richard Hughes is set to put pen to paper and resign for AFCB on a two year deal.

AFC Bournemouth is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Richard Hughes subject to a medical.

The 33 year old comes to the club as a free agent having previously been at Portsmouth.  

Glasgow born, he was brought up in Italy and came through the youth system at Atalanta.  He joined the youth set up at Arsenal in 1993, progressing through to the professional ranks at Highbury before signing for AFC Bournemouth in 1998.  He became part of the side that came so close to reaching the play offs on two occasions.  

He made 131 league appearances in a four year spell with the Cherries before joining Portsmouth.  He spent nine years at Pompey, also making 131 League appearances and represented Scotland on five occasions.
