He welcomed precious daughter Poppy with wife Phoebe in January this year.

And NRL star Sam Burgess was very much a hands-on father, during a casual outing in Sydney's Paddington on Thursday.

The casually dressed 28-year-old gazed affectionately at the couple's baby, held in the footy player's muscular arms.

Sam cut a casual figure while out in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

A form-fitting black sweater skimmed over the star's muscular upper frame, teamed with a pair of casual shorts and grey Adidas trainers.

Trendy sunglasses and a statement watch worked as coordinating accessories.

Sam gazed affectionately at little Poppy, who was kept warm in a white onesie and a delicate green blanket.

Proud mother Phoebe looked on adoringly, while dressed in a sports luxe-themed ensemble. 

Two round-neck tops covered her petite upper frame, paired with full-length black leggings that featured subtle gold detailing.

Casual black sneakers and tortoise-shell Celine sunglasses tied in nicely with the look.

With her mid-length blonde locks styled sleek and straight, Phoebe appeared to go makeup-free, allowing her natural beauty to shine through.

Phoebe's mother Sarah Hooke also joined in on the outing.

Phoebe welcomed the couple's first child Poppy in late January this year.

Sam and Phoebe are also a proud uncle and auntie to George and Joanna Burgess' adorable newborn son Boston.
