'It's helped my vocal range': X Factor's James Arthur reveals his nose job has made him a better singer… as he performs his new single Can I Be Him live on The One Show

He seduced Britain when he won the X Factor back in 2012 and, after a troubled period, James Arthur is back to his chart topping ways.

And while appearing on BBC's The One Show to perform his latest single Can I Be Him on Friday evening, the 29-year-old star revealed one of the reasons why he is on better form than ever before.

James, who recently confirmed he was back together with his on-off girlfriend Jessica Grist, said his voice had improved since he opted for a much-discussed nose job in February.

The singer returned to form last year with his brilliant album Back From The Edge and spoke openly about his struggles with anxiety and depression before his comeback.

But he had not previously been so open about the extent of his nose job's positive impact on his career.

Looking excited to hear the live performance from the multimillion record-selling singer, presenter Angela Scanlon pointed out that James' vocal range – as well as his popularity – had increased in recent months.

Shocking: James announced on Twitter on February 9 that he was 'in hospital waiting to get my nose broke back into place', shortly before releasing a shocking image of his bandaged face

And the star responded by saying: 'Yeah, well I got punched in the nose a few times as a youngster so I had it put back into place, which has helped with my vocal range.'

Fans were initially shocked at the news the rugged-looking star would be going under the knife.

James, whose debut single Impossible reached No.1 in UK Singles Chart, had previously explained on Twitter that he had undergone the cosmetic surgery procedure because his nose was 'pushed over to one side' and 'causing breathing difficulties'.

The black-and-white picture showed the handsome singer with his nose and parts of his face bandaged, while he wore a hospital gown.

In a caption accompanying the image on Instagram, the singer joked: 'Stay outta trouble kids.. just had my nose put straight after many years of it being on one side of my face due to one to many scuffles as a teen lol.'

The star will undertake his first ever headline arena tour later this year, backed by his former X Factor pal Ella Henderson as his support act.

The nine date tour will take start on November 16 in Leeds and will culminate on November 30 in Bournemouth after making a big night stop at Wembley Arena.

And in another moment of good news for James, the singer recently reunited with his former X Factor flame Jessica Grist, who was a dancer on the show.

The singer revealed that Jess had helped him through his toughest times - including the traumatic bottle attack he went through last year, when he was left with a nasty gash on the back of his head after being glassed by Christopher Revell, in retaliation to the singer bedding his ex-girlfriend.
