But today she appeared confident in her full riding attire while jumping at the Burnham Market International Horse Trials in Norfolk.

Water after a jump makes the obstacle more difficult to navigate as it creates a drag on the horse, and the rider can easily come flying off if they are not in a defensive position.

Luckily yesterday Zara's daughter Mia had a much more successful time, as she had fun with her father Mike while her mother was competing.

While Zara was in the saddle, three-year-old Mia was kept entertained by fairground attractions and couldn't hide her delight as she squealed with joy while taking a turn on a chair swing ride.

Her father Mike previously revealed that the youngster is already very outgoing, something which her parents welcome.

'She's got quite a little personality on her, and we encourage that,' he said.

And her cheerful character was fully on display today as she fearlessly whizzed down an inflatable slide and enjoyed some rough and tumble with Mike on the grass.

The pair were seen playing around with a riding crop, as they watched Zara trot off to compete on her horse.

Beaming as she made her way to the event, Zara was certainly delighted to be spending her Good Friday on her horse BGS Class Affair.

The royal left her Olympic silver medal horse, High Kingdom, at home but was competing on three different horses - Fernhill Facetime, Drops of Brandy and BGS Class Affair in the Advanced or Two Star sections over the course of the event.

The event takes place between 13th and 15th April  and has become a well established trial within the eventing calendar. It was awarded international status in 2003 and now the event hosts a range of classes.

There are two international classes held over the three days.

Both are classed as ‘one-day’ events, which means they perform their dressage test on either Thursday or Friday and complete the show jumping, followed by the cross country on Saturday.

The doting father was spotted frolicking with the cute three-year-old as they supported his British equestrian wife in Lincolnshire.

He rolled in the grass with a happy-looking Mia, who was dressed in a stripy navy and white top, black jeans and a pretty white sun hat.

Mia appears to enjoy watching her mother compete. Last week she was full of beans, clambering over her father's shoulders and running after her cousins Savannah and Isla Phillips as Zara took part in the Gatcombe Horse Trials, held at Princess Anne's country residence in Gloucestershire.
