Mel B is all smiles as she hints at a new movie role while stepping out on to a film set in California... amid her bitter divorce battle with Stephen Belafonte

She is currently in the midst of a bitter divorce battle with estranged husband of ten years Stephen Belafonte. 

But that hasn't stopped Mel B from throwing herself into work and she was seen brushing off her troubles as she stepped out onto a film set in California on Thursday. 

The former Spice Girl, 41, hinted that she could be starring in a new movie and seemed excited at the prospect as she flashed a smile for the rolling cameras.

No doubt enjoying a welcome break from her current situation, Mel cut a content figure while sporting a low-key ensemble on location in Inglewood. 

Putting on a stylish display, despite her laid-back look, Mel flaunted her enviable frame in a a pair of ripped jeans. 

She tucked a casual vest top into the waistband of her distressed denim and finished off her look with a complementing choker around her neck. 

Her dark tresses were styled into tight braids and she donned large gold hoop earrings and a face full of make-up to add a glamorous touch to her getup.

So far there aren't any details surrounding Mel's latest film set visit, but she is set to feature in a new animated movie titled Blazing Samurai next year. 

The comedy also features the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Ricky Gervais and Michael Cera. 

Mel cameos in the film and voices a character known as The Giraffe.

Her latest appearance in California comes after she reportedly blocked estranged husband Stephen from using their bank accounts in a bid to seize control of her financial assets.

The British singer is alleged to have cut off Belafonte’s access to the fortune, believed to be in excess of £40 million, little more than a week after winning a restraining order against him.

A source told The Sun: ‘This has hit Stephen hard. Mel has finally pulled the rug out from underneath him and that seems to have left him a bit lost.’

The move has reportedly prompted under fire Belafonte, 41, to reconnect with ex-girlfriend Nicole Contreras, who he was previously convicted of assaulting during a 'jealous outburst.' 

The source added: 'He’s even been back in touch with Nicole moaning about it — insisting it has left him struggling to get by.

‘He has had instant access to a fortune for such a long time that he doesn’t seem to know what to do.’

Elsewhere one of Belafonte's former lovers is 'attempting to cash in' on their messy divorce, according to reports.

TMZ claim the currently unnamed ex has jumped on the bandwagon by allegedly 'threatening Belafonte to tell the police that he abused her as well, unless he pays her a large sum of cash'.

It's thought the allegations are untrue, and that the woman in question is purely being opportunistic, seemingly under the impression that the authorities will believe her story in light of Mel's recent claims.

According to the website, Belafonte went to the LAPD several days ago and reported the situation.

The tabloid reports that law enforcement sources have  confirmed that the woman in question contacted Belafonte with prepared statements that 'would make everyone believe Mel was telling the truth'.

Belafonte reportedly wasn't standing for it, and he reported it to the police before she could take it any further.

Meanwhile Mel claims her husband extorted her with sex tapes, abused her, threatened to destroy her career and forcibly instructed her not to fire their nanny, Lorraine Gilles. 

She is said to be in possession of the tapes in question - and Mel B was spotted arriving at a storage unit in LA on Tuesday amid claims the sex tapes are in a lock up owned by Gilles. 

Mel claimed the former nanny was keeping between 12 to 15 boxes that include sex tapes, photos of Gilles and Belafonte and Spice Girls memorabilia at the Public Storage facility. 

According to reports, the singer pulled up to the lock up and entered a code, which failed to open the door. Looking frustrated, the star kept checking her phone before she decided to drive away.

When Mel first showed up with her lawyers, officials at the storage facility reportedly wouldn't let her in. 

She then went to police for help entering the storage locker, but left a second time empty handed after obtaining access.

Mel obtained a restraining order against the nanny, who her estranged husband reportedly 'got pregnant during an affair'.

Police didn't find anything after they raided the Public Storage facility on Tuesday in Hollywood, TMZ reported.

A judge ordered Gilles to stay 100 yards away from Mel and not to harass her or remove any property from the Public Storage locker.

Court documents revealed that the singer accused Gilles and Belafonte of extortion. 

The documents also state that in January 2015, Mel fired the nanny, but her husband lost it calling Gilles his 'ride or die b****.'

She claimed that Belafonte threatened to release their sex tapes unless she rehired the nanny with a raise.

He looked at Lorraine and said, 'Isn't that right, Lorraine,' and Lorraine responded, 'Yes,' according to court documents.  

Mel said that Gilles admitted to having the videos and said she'd give them to the film producer, who allegedly got her pregnant during an affair. However, Gilles had an abortion, according to Mel B's court application.

Belafonte's lawyer, Grace Jamra, told TMZ that he and his estranged wife had agreed to put the Spice Girls items in storage while their house was sold. 

She claimed the couple's former nanny was not involved and had been sacked before the storage locker had been rented. 

Jamra added: 'Unfortunately, it appears that Ms. Brown is creating further hysteria and seeking meaningless Court orders. It will be clear to everyone that there are no sex tapes in the storage.'

Earlier on Tuesday it was revealed that Belafonte is 'fighting to maintain contact' with step-daughter Angel Iris, estranged wife Mel's daughter with Hollywood star Eddie Murphy.

TMZ claimed Belafonte hopes to win visitation rights with the 10-year old, who was born in April 2007, two-months before he married the former Spice Girl Mel in Las Vegas.

Belafonte allegedly believes Murphy, 56, has played a limited role in Angel's life while he has acted as the child's stepfather, sharing parental responsibilities with Mel throughout their decade long marriage.

It is understood that Belafonte enjoys a close relationship with Angel, although his estranged wife is 'strongly opposed' to the producer maintaining contact with her second child.

The former couple are already embroiled in a legal battle over joint custody of their only biological child, five-year old Madison as they are involved in a seemingly nasty divorce.

Extracts from a letter reportedly delivered to Mel's lawyer on March 31 read: 'Stephen would like to schedule a meeting as soon as possible to discuss the resolution of temporary issues including his ability to see Madison and Angel, whom we would appreciate continuing to have contact with.'

Belafonte is based in Los Angeles, and California Law stipulates a stepparent can win 'reasonable visitation rights' if it is deemed to benefit the child in question.
