'She is living her life in fear': Mel B 'given additional security on America's Got Talent out of fears for her safety'... following messy divorce battle with Stephen Belafonte

Her divorce battle with Stephen Belafonte has only gone from bad to worse in recent weeks.

And now reports have emerged that Mel B's security has been increased on set of America's Got Talent, in order to protect her during their tense proceedings.

According to the Daily Star, the 41-year-old's co-star Simon Cowell has drafted in extra bodyguards to ensure she is 'well protected' while filming in LA - after being granted a restraining order from her film producer ex.

After being granted a temporary restraining order from Stephen following a slew of abuse allegations, sources now claim music mogul Simon, 57, has taken extra precautions on set - as the former Spice Girl is 'living life in fear'.

An insider told the paper: 'Mel is petrified about her safety and fears Belafonte may attempt to crash the filming to see her.

'She is living her life in fear about the ramifications of filing legal papers of divorce and the restraining order.'

With the Syco owner reportedly bringing more bodyguards to set, and even positioning some in the audience, the source added: 'Mel will be well protected.'

The former Scary Spice began filming the twelfth series of the NBC show back in March, ready for its first broadcast at the end of May.

However her filming schedule was somewhat tarnished by the personal woes - having filed for divorce from Stephen that same month.

Amid all the drama, Mel appeared to be getting back to her everyday lifestyle on Thursday as she casually stepped out in LA.

The 41-year-old singer was seen wearing a sporty ensemble as she got out of her car during a traffic jam.

Opting for a dressed-down look, Mel teamed a white striped sweater with a pair of loose fitting tracksuit bottoms.

She finished off the ensemble with a pair of Adidas trainers, keeping her accessories to a minimum. 

Wearing her hair in braids, she accentuated her eyes with lashings of mascara and a smoky eyeshadow.

Her appearance comes as she hinted should could be starring in a new movie, after being spotted on a film set on Thursday.

While there aren't any details surrounding the visit, she is set to feature in animated movie Blazing Samurai next year, voicing a character known as The Giraffe. 

The comedy also features the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Ricky Gervais and Michael Cera.

Her latest appearance in California comes after she reportedly blocked estranged husband Stephen from using their bank accounts in a bid to seize control of her financial assets.

The British singer is alleged to have cut off Belafonte's access to the fortune, believed to be in excess of £40 million, little more than a week after winning a restraining order against him.

A source told The Sun: 'This has hit Stephen hard. Mel has finally pulled the rug out from underneath him and that seems to have left him a bit lost.'

The move has reportedly prompted under fire Belafonte, 41, to reconnect with ex-girlfriend Nicole Contreras, who he was previously convicted of assaulting during a 'jealous outburst.'

The source added: 'He's even been back in touch with Nicole moaning about it — insisting it has left him struggling to get by.

'He has had instant access to a fortune for such a long time that he doesn't seem to know what to do.' 

Meanwhile Mel claims her husband extorted her with sex tapes, abused her, threatened to destroy her career and forcibly instructed her not to fire their nanny, Lorraine Gilles.

The nanny is said to be in possession of the tapes in question - and Mel B was spotted arriving at a storage unit in LA on Tuesday amid claims the sex tapes are in a lock up owned by Gilles. 

Mel has obtained a restraining order against the nanny, who her estranged husband reportedly 'got pregnant during an affair'.

A judge ordered Gilles to stay 100 yards away from Mel and not to harass her or remove any property from the Public Storage locker.  

Earlier on Tuesday it was revealed that Belafonte is 'fighting to maintain contact' with step-daughter Angel Iris, estranged wife Mel's daughter with Hollywood star Eddie Murphy.

TMZ claimed Belafonte hopes to win visitation rights with the 10-year old, who was born in April 2007, two-months before he married the former Spice Girl Mel in Las Vegas.

Belafonte allegedly believes Murphy, 56, has played a limited role in Angel's life while he has acted as the child's stepfather, sharing parental responsibilities with Mel throughout their decade long marriage.

Nanny: Mel obtained a restraining order against nanny Lorraine Gilles, who her estranged husband reportedly 'got pregnant during an affair' 

It is understood that Belafonte enjoys a close relationship with Angel, although his estranged wife is 'strongly opposed' to the producer maintaining contact with her second child.

The former couple are already embroiled in a legal battle over joint custody of their only biological child, five-year old Madison as they are involved in a seemingly nasty divorce.

Extracts from a letter reportedly delivered to Mel's lawyer on March 31 read: 'Stephen would like to schedule a meeting as soon as possible to discuss the resolution of temporary issues including his ability to see Madison and Angel, whom we would appreciate continuing to have contact with.'

Belafonte is based in Los Angeles, and California Law stipulates a stepparent can win 'reasonable visitation rights' if it is deemed to benefit the child in question.
