The much-anticipated new series of Britain's Got Talent kicks off on Saturday night.

However it seems things got off to a rocky start for judge Amanda Holden, who was left furious after being called a 'dog' by an eight-year-old comedian on the show.

According to The Sun, the actress, 46, 'had words' with the parents of Ned Woodman, after he made the shocking joke about her during his stand-up comedy performance.

On Saturday night's episode of the beloved ITV show, budding comedian Ned, 8, takes to the stage to win the judges over with his selection of jokes.

However the audience is soon left shocked when he makes a rather bold joke about the Wild At Heart star, which stated: 'Why were people so excited by that talking dog on Britain's Got Talent? Amanda Holden's been on it for years.' 

The blonde then reportedly expressed her disappointment with the joke to Ned's parents - after it emerged his dad Liam, who is a comedy writer on BBC series Not Going Out, was the one behind the punchline.

Laying down the law: She said of the surprising joke: 'I had words with his parents on the day. I don't think any parent would let their child say that'

Amanda told the paper: 'I have got a sense of humour, but I think he should temper his act to his age.'

Admitting she would not have instilled such wit in her children, she added: 'I had words with his parents on the day. I don't think any parent would let their child say that.'

Meanwhile her fellow judge Alesha Dixon confessed the budding funnyman had been incredibly 'shocking' due to his age.

The former Mis-Teeq star, 38, explained: 'We were surprised. What made him so shocking was it was this young person delivering quite adult jokes.'

The new series of the talent show returns to ITV on Saturday night - and features a whole new range of weird and wonderful acts.

Also auditioning alongside Ned is a missing people's choir, a dog yoga teacher, a mind-reading double act and a magician - who gets show host Ant McPartlin involved in a terrifying head-chopping trick.

Like previous years, Alesha and Amanda join forces with David Walliams and Simon Cowell on the panel to find the UK's hottest new talent.

However Amanda recently admitted that while she gets on very well with music mogul Simon, his three-year-old son Eric is not quite as taken with her.

Talking to Richard Arnold on Friday's Good Morning Britain, the 46-year-old said: He is afraid of me,' to much laughter.

She said: 'He's come to the show a few times and he's not afraid of the buzzer, but he is afraid of me. I try to give him a big cuddle and he's like, "NO!".'
