Bartra was the only player injured as he caught fragments of glass in his arm when a window on the bus shattered as they were leaving the hotel.

Less than 24 hours after the incident, Bartra took to Instagram to give an update, sharing a smiling picture alongside a caption which read: 'Hello everybody! As you can see I am doing much better.

'Thank you everybody for all your support and your messages! All my strength to my team mates, supporters and fans and to @BVB for tonight's match!'

Tuesday night's match was postponed amid safety concerns, but everyone will return to the stadium on Wednesday night to complete the tie.

Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki spoke to Swiss media about the incident, explaining what happened.

'The bus turned onto the main road, when there was a huge noise - a big explosion,' he said. 'After the bang, we all crouched down in the bus. Anyone who could, threw himself on the floor. We did not know if more would come.'

A police officer escorting the coach to the match on a motorcycle was also injured when the bombs detonated. He suffered hearing damage and shock and was unable to report for duty on Wednesday.

German police have searched properties belonging to 'two suspects from the Islamist spectrum' and made one arrest, meaning another man is still on the loose.

Frauke Koehler, a spokeswoman for federal prosecutors, revealed the explosive devices used in the attack contained metal pins, one of which was found buried in a headrest on the vehicle.

Ms Koehler said it was lucky 'that nothing worse happened', adding that investigators are still working to determine how the devices were detonated and what substance was used.

Police said they are hunting a car with foreign registered plates, which was seen near the crime scene shortly before the explosions occurred.
