Just one year ago today, the world lost one of the biggest icons ever to grace a stage. Purple Rain megastar, Prince, died suddenly on April 21, 2016, from an accidental drug overdose at the age of 57. Now, never-before-seen photos have been released to mark the one-year anniversary of his tragic death. The intimate pictures give a rare insight into his everyday life at his private Paisley Park estate. Prince's stunning snaps are featured in a new book written by his art director, Steve Parke, titled, Picturing Prince: An Intimate Portrait. The book spans four decades of the legendary music icon's career. Some of the photos show Prince sitting barefoot in the grass, meditating (inset), posing outside of his home and enjoying a walk in the sun. Parke, a Baltimore-based photographer began working with Prince in 1988 and served as the singer's art director until 2001. 

Investigators found three handwritten notes in Aaron Hernandez's cell next to a Bible that was open to John 3:16. One of the notes was to fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, who was seen leaving her mother's Connecticut home Thursday. The second note was to their four-year-old daughter Avielle. And sources close to the investigation tell DailyMail.com that the third letter was written to the former football star's gay prison lover. That man is currently under 'eyeball to eyeball' suicide watch. Shayanna and Aaron grew up in the same neighborhood and had known each other since elementary school. They became engaged in October 2012, while she was pregnant, and she took his last name following his murder conviction three years later. DailyMail.com has learned from a well-placed source that Hernandez was planning his suicide for weeks.

In the new biography Leading Lady, which will be released next Tuesday, Stephen Galloway of The Hollywood Reporter writes of an incident that occurred after Lansing (left in 1993) learned that Mike Myers (right in 1993) had based his script for the studio's highly anticipated Wayne's World sequel (inset) on a 1949 film without acquiring the rights. With a rewrite of the script the only way forward if the studio was going to meet their scheduled release date, Lansing did not mince words when she called Myers into her office. 'She said, "How dare you? How dare you put us in this position?"' according to one individual present at the meeting. 'She turned to Mike and said, "We'll sue you. We'll take your f***ing house. You won't even own a f***ing home."'

Harvard academics have discovered a second parchment copy of the Declaration of Independence at a records office in southern England. The newly discovered document has been dated to the 1780s and was found in the town of Chichester's archives. It is believed to have originally belonged to the Duke of Richmond, or the 'Radical Duke,' who was known for his support of Americans during the Revolutionary War.

William and Kate dropped in on the Scott Mills show this afternoon to surprise DJ Adele Roberts who is running the London Marathon on Sunday for their Heads Together Campaign. The pair were surprisingly forthcoming when quizzed by the DJ about their day-to-day life, revealing they love to order takeaway curries and relax with a box set when George and Charlotte are in bed.

Carmen and Lupita Andrade, 16, (pictured far left, with Carmen on the left and Lupita on the right) from New Milford, Connecticut, were born joined at the chest wall down to the pelvis. The girls can't be separated because of how many organs they share and have had to learn to live their lives in tandem. Now, Lupita is suffering from scoliosis and could need surgery to help her breathe easier, which puts them at risk of dying.

Griffin Barry (left) helped police arrest Tad Cummins, 50 (top right), who had been on the run for more than a month after kidnapping former student Elizabeth Thomas, 15 (bottom right). The 29-year-old man is originally from Tennessee but now works as a cabin caretaker in northern California. He says that Cummins and the girl, who were going by the names John and Joanna, came through the area two weeks ago looking for a commune. They came back on Tuesday, saying the commune wasn't a good fit. Barry says he let the two stay in one of his unfinished cabins (inset) in exchange for work. Wednesday night, a neighbor showed Barry a picture of the missing couple and he immediately recognized them. He then called 911 and police arrested Cummins in a raid the next morning.

Cuba Gooding Jr returned to work the day after his father to actor Cuba Gooding Jr., has passed away aged 72. The 49-year-old was pictured shooting scenes with Jaden Smith in Toronto on the set of his new film, Life in a Year. He managed a smile as he filmed scene outdoors with his young co-star, but the strain showed between takes.

Evette Simmons, 59, (inset) was stunned to discover that her new neighbors, Joe and Abraham Mashieh, had painted her historic Brooklyn brownstone's exterior wall black and installed a handrail. Simmons says the wall will cost at least $8,000 to fix and the neighbors aren't responding to her calls.

Meghan looked more like Kate than ever while filming Suits in Toronto, Canada. But even though their similarities are commented on, they aren't as alike as they first appear. While Meghan (left) prefers to wear almost no make-up when she's not on set, the Duchess of Cambridge (right) still lacks sophisitcated tastes when it comes to make-up. Kate is a Waitrose girl and shops at Chelsea department store Peter Jones. But it is Meghan who wears the Crown of Cool, as she shops in Whole Foods, the American organic produce market.

Tiffany Trump was out and about in New York City on Wednesday, with the First daughter spotted partying into the night with a few close friends and one Hollywood star at the Dream Downtown Hotel. The group (l to r: Alex Assouline, Alexa Yarnell, Tiffany Trump, Andrew Warren, Natalie Jackson, Gaia Matisse, Harry Brant, Bella Thorne), which included Tiffany's privileged posse of Instagram influencers known as the 'Snap Pack,' were gathered together to celebrate the release of Bella Thorne's new television series 'Famous In Love.' And after an evening of cake cutting, dancing and posing for social media posts, Thorne decided to ditch her premier party get-up of red leather and lace for some lingerie and lead the group in a late-night dip in the hotel hot tub.

The 37-year-old is one of the cover stars of the the trade publication's Power of Women issue, and she donned a colorful dress for her appearance at the event held at Cipriani Midtown in New York City. Chelsea, who spoke at the event, was honored alongside a group that includes Gayle King, Jessica Chastain, Blake Lively, Shari Redstone and Audra McDonald.

The 'Donga', or stick fight, is practised by Suri tribesmen in southern Ethiopia at the end of each harvest. It sees men fight in little or no clothing as a means of impressing women and finding a wife. It is a combination of martial art, ritual and sport and can often result in death. It also aims to get young men used to bloodshed - which leaders believe comes in handy if they clash with other tribes.

Rob Lowe plays Colonel Harland Sanders in a new astronaut-themed commercial for KFC's Zinger chicken sandwich, the company said on Friday. The West Wing actor, 53, said that he met the famed chicken pioneer, who died in December of 1980, as a child. 'My grandfather was the head of the Ohio chapter of the National Restaurant Association in the 1960s and took me to meet Colonel Harland Sanders when I was a kid,' the actor said in a statement. 'It was a big deal.'

A new viral video shows a man trying to impress his friends with a weightlifting stunt - only to accidentally fart when the barbell presses down on him, sending the spotter and camera man into fits of laughter while he is left to cover his face in embarrassment. We're guessing he didn't win his bet!

A radical zero-emission electric plane capable of vertical take-off and landing has successfully completed flight tests. The two-seater Lilium Jet carried out a series of tests above Germany, including a mid-air maneuver in which it transitions from hover mode to wing-borne forward flight, the firm has revealed. And, Lilium also revealed that it is working on a larger, five-seater version that the firm says could soon be used for ride-sharing services.

The chilling clip captured by the Most Haunted cameras appears to show a ghostly male figure walking through a doorway and down a corridor at Wentworth House, a derelict mansion in South Yorkshire. Host Yvette Fielding has described the footage as the most 'ground-breaking' in the history of the show.

A female elephant which got trapped in a 5ft-deep marsh in Tamil Nadu, India for 20 hours has been filmed getting pulled out of the slush by a group of good willed forest rangers and villagers.The footage shows the large elephant being slowly dragged out of the slippery mud after locals wrapped a long and thick piece of rope around her front legs. Scores of men were filmed pulling at either side of the rope and moments later the elephant's hind legs, which had sunk deep into the mud, emerged into the open, a day after getting submerged in the earth. The clip then jumps to the moments the beast's hind legs became completely freed from the mud and rangers push the elephant from behind to help it stand up once again.

The harsh reality of life on plantations in America's Deep South has been exposed in a series of evocative colour photographs. The haunting images show black laborers picking cotton under the blistering hot sun, cutting Burley tobacco (top right) and putting it on sticks to wilt before taking it into the curing and drying barn. Other shots show an exhausted mother taking a break on a porch (left) on a Bayou Bourbeau plantation (bottom left) in Louisiana, fishing in a creek near cotton plantations and hanging out by a juke joint. While the black labourers toil in the fields, the images show white farmers and townspeople gathering in the centre of town (bottom right) on Court Day in a scene reminiscent of To Kill a Mocking Bird.

A male student took part in an experiment to endure simulated labor pain - and lasted less than 20 seconds. Brave Jonny Wade offered himself as a sacrificial lamb to test whether he could withstand the birthing experience at Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee. As one of his fellow classmate holds him, the mature student is clearly in discomfort while his partner keeps telling him to breathe and pats his chest.

As the rebel slave who defied his captors, Kunta Kinte immortalised in print and on screen in 1977's 'Roots' (pictured inset), put The Gambia on the map for historical tourism.But the island where he and tens of thousands of west African slaves faced the horrors of being chained, branded and separated before leaving their homeland forever, is under threat from erosion and neglect. Kinte's descendants, along with heritage officials, warn that without urgent action, 550 years of history could be lost.

Footage shows the driver, called Felipe, lifting up the load on the forks as his companion looks on. But it quickly becomes clear his haul is too heavy, and the vehicle tips over into the skip. Luckily, it quickly bounces back into position after depositing the goods. Both men can be heard laughing afterwards and no one was hurt during the incident.

A video from an unknown location has emerged of a canny cat untangling itself from a leash and onto apparent freedom. The cheeky feline starts the video, which appears to have taken place in a veterinary surgery, with the lead loosely draped around its neck. However the cat, who is slipping from a table for most of the clip, produces a slick head movement to push the leash's knot from its neck. Despite the impressive manouvre the top of the lead falls onto one of the cat's paws thus keeping it in the leash's grasp.

An orphaned baby kangaroo was filmed begging his keeper for attention in a desperate bid to be cuddled. Chris lowers a small pouch and Terri dives in head first excitedly. The pouches are designed by workers at the sanctuary to be as close to the real thing as possible. 'They hop into their mums pouches just like they hop into their pillowcase pouches we make them. We try to make them as close in shape and size as their mums pouch would be. And they are very clever at moving themselves when they are in the pouch.' a staff member said.
