North Korea's large-scale military parades and weapons displays are intended for propaganda purposes since the arms carried by the troops are largely fake, according to a US military expert. A former US Army intelligence officer who was asked to look at photographs from an April 15 military parade in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang. The former officer, Michael Pregent, said he believes that many of the arms flaunted by menacing-looking North Korean troops (like the RPGs seen above) during the parade are dummies. Even the sunglasses worn by the 'commandos' (inset) aren't combat-ready, according to Pregent.

French photographer Eric Lafforgue captured the stunning images in 2008 before North Korean officials banned him from travelling to the secretive state. They show female military officials (left), children at an orphanage and citizens gathering at statues of the state's 'Dear Leaders' (top right). The grainy images also show a newly-wed couple posing for portraits (bottom right) in front of North Korean landmarks while another shows a young woman standing beneath pictures of the country's dictators (inset). Lafforgue, 52, said he took the photos in a time before North Koreans had access to smart phones - and found that the Polaroids helped to break the ice with locals.

James M. Jeffrey from Robertsdale was in the middle of a broadcast on Tuesday when he suddenly took his gun and shot himself in the head. Horrified viewers who were watching at the time then notified the police. It is the latest in a string of horrifying acts that have been filmed and streamed live social media. The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office said they received a call from a woman who was concerned that Jeffrey had stopped responding to her phone calls. Jeffrey and the woman were reportedly in the process of breaking up. The sheriff's office said that Jeffrey's suicide was viewed over 1,000 times before it was finally removed from Facebook two hours later. 

A grieving mother is using the heartbreak of her son dying from an accidental overdose to warn people about the danger of opioids. Sherri Kent, from Calgary, Canada, shared a picture of her holding her dying 22-year-old son - Michael - laying in a hospital bed. Michael is seen in the harrowing photo (top) with a tube in his mouth and he appears to be unconscious. Kent (bottom with her son) is holding the 22-year-old's hand. 'I just want everyone to know that my son Michael overdosed on Fentanyl,' she wrote on Facebook. 'My son was not an addict he made a mistake that cost him his life. I just want to make everyone aware of the epidemic that's goin (sic) on right now.'

Ivanka Trump lived up to her glamorous reputation as she attended a dinner at Deutsche Bank with German Chancellor Angela Merkel earlier in the week while wearing mis-matched earrings. The $600 jewelry is from Italian luxury fashion label Marni, and tap into an increasingly popular trend among the fashion set for earrings that do not match. Ivanka had been in Germany for a women's summit, marking her first foreign trip in her White House role.

Ivanka Trump wished the first lady and her stepmom a happy birthday on Wednesday in a message filled with adoration posted to Twitter as Melania Trump celebrated turning 47. This comes after reports emerged on Sunday from two unnamed sources that the first lady and Ivanka, 35, have a frosty relationship. A White House spokesperson denied allegations that the two women do not get along and said they have always had a close bond.

American writer Paul Greenberg stars in new Frontline documentary The Fish on My Plate, which sees him eat more than 700 seafood-based meals over one year. He documents his health at the beginning and end of the journey to measure the difference an increased intake of omega-3s could have on his diet. At the end, he is shocked to learn that, despite the much-lauded benefits of the fish oil fats, his health was left 'virtually the same. Unchanged.'

Darlington, which has been called the 'American Versailles,', is an estate fit for royalty, and its 50,000 square feet of magnificence and rarity is for sale for $48 million in New Jersey. The estate if located in Mahwah, New Jersey, which is just 25 miles from New York City. The architectural beauty sits on over 12 acres and is flanked by the Ramapo Mountains and Valley. The home was originally constructed in 1907 and has been meticulously renovated in the last seven years.

San Diego's Cinthia Lara caught the moment two couples got out of their cars and started brawling in the streets of Chula Vista on camera last month. One of the women left with a bloody face before the altercation was broken up by an off duty police officer. Multiple vehicles were forced to stop for the fight taking up the roadway and at least two individuals got out of their cars to try to break up the fight.

Amy Horton, 23, from McKinney, Texas, filmed her little Corgi, Maggie, tearing around the house. The adorable pup drops to the floor and splays out all her limps after running and playing with her owners. After a couple of seconds rest she is back crashing about and causing chaos. Ms Horton said: 'I have never seen any corgi sploot that much, that often, and that cute.'

A German paramedic has been fired after drawing a Hitler moustache on a migrant who was being taken to hospital following a suspected drink and drugs overdose. The incident happened at Christmas but only came to light this week when medical assistant Thomas Wagner posted a video and photos in a WhatsApp group chat he set up for the Johanitter care group in Frankfurt. He sent a photo to his colleagues of a comatose man with the infamous facial hair drawn on in a blue biro alongside the caption: 'Victim#1 - today: trendy beards.' (left). On the video he uploaded, the patient is seen sprawled across the stretcher inside the ambulance (right).

Color-blind Xavier McCoury (pictured) from North Carolina got an early birthday present which allowed him to see the world fully - after a decade of seeing only shades of grey, black and white. The ten-year-old tears up when he sees the full extent of the world he was missing - and now says he never wants to take the glasses off.

Seemingly channelling Scrappy Do, the little tabby and white Munchkin cat picks a fight with its larger companion on the back of a sofa. But it soon finds its short limbs are going to be a hindrance in a scrap and his grey opponent soon puts a stop to the nonsense with just one paw. The video, reportedly filmed in Russia, had people in stitches when it was posted online.

Feisty five-year-old Mila angrily tells the camera that she has seen boyfriend Sawyer 'in the park with another girl'. She adds that she is 'so mad' and she is going to 'call him right now'. The video, filmed in an unknown location, shows the high maintenance youngster pick up her pink plastic phone to make a 'call' and give her boyfriend the tongue lashing he deserves.

When Kaycee Bothwell was getting ready for her prom she wanted a cute picture with her beloved puppy Doobie. But the 11-week-old pitbull had other ideas and when she picked him up, in her beautiful peach Prom dress, he pulled a hilarious face (pictured, right) which went viral after she posted it online. Kaycee, (left), from Valparaiso, Indiana, said of Doobie: 'He's super playful, but he's such a good boy!'

The crocodile launched the brutal attack after the unsuspecting gazelle followed its family into a river in Kenya. Photographer, Clifford Knight, captured the moment the animal made a break for freedom, only to be snared in the reptile's giant jaws. It took just 15 minutes for the crocodile to devour its prey.

BMW recently showed off a prototype of the colour changing concept car to staff at a secretive event at a Munich test track. It is designed for car sharing schemes, and can drive itself between owners. The vehicle is wrapped in a material that allows it to change colour from the default silver, to whichever colour the driver would like

The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) intends to televise Reinflytting: Minutt for Minutt, which chronicles the spring migration of the reindeer, for about a week. The animals, numbering around 1,000, are expected to be on the move - from Suossjavri to Kvaloya - for between six and nine days. And the many expectant TV viewers are eager for the action to begin.

The group, from Spain, were visiting the Rocky Mountains in British Columbia, Canada, on April 21 when a river of snow came crashing down the mountain next to them. Skier and mountaineer Jurek Ziemkiewicz captured the avalanche on camera. The footage shows the moment the group spot the snow approaching from above and race to get out of the way.

After a week looming over the tiny Canadian town of Ferryland, the 150-foot iceberg that has captivated the region appears to be moving away.  The iceberg, which is believed to be 50 feet higher than the one that struck the Titanic, made waves across Canada and the US when it appeared off the coast of Newfoundland last week, attracting tourists to the area. The vast wall of ice is now moving away from the coastline thanks to the sea's currents - but tourists need not feel two put out, the town's mayor told CP 24, as two more icebergs now appear to be inbound.
