'It was an "us or them" situation': Spice Girls talent show to find two new stars has been AXED 'after Victoria Beckham and Mel C refused to be replaced'
Fans of the Spice Girls could have been presented with the opportunity to audition to become a member of the iconic 90s girl band.
But plans for a talent show to find new members for the group have now been axed at the hands of original Spice Girls Victoria Beckham and Mel Chisholm.
Both girls have been reluctant to reunite with Mel B, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner to reprise the group and according to reports, they are putting their foot down when it comes to the trio's TV plans.

'That won't be happening now': Plans for a Spice Girls talent show to recruit two new members has been axed at the hands of Victoria Beckham and Melanie Chisholm - according to reports
Mel B, Emma and Geri had hoped to search for new members to make up the five-piece as they prepared to make a comeback for the Spice Girls' 20th anniversary last year.
A talent competition where the girls would judge wannabes hoping to audition to be in the band was pitched in September and had garnered great interest from TV bosses.
It was claimed that the show was set to air in April this year on the BBC, but the idea has now been completely scrapped at the hands of Victoria and Mel C.
A source claimed to The Sun: 'Unfortunately, that won't be happening now.
Not keen: Both Mel (left) and Victoria (right) have been reluctant to get involved with a Spice Girls reunion - focusing on their own careers instead
Axed: A source has claimed, 'Neither Victoria nor Mel C were on board with the idea and faced with an "us and them" situation, it was dropped'
'Neither Victoria nor Mel C were on board with the idea and faced with an "us and them" situation, it was dropped.
'It's a shame because it would have been one of the most sought-after prizes in reality TV show history.'
News the talent show has been axed before its even begun come after Mel and Victoria have defiantly refused to rejoin the Spice Girls and revive the group.
While Victoria is focusing on her fashion line, Mel has been embarking on a solo career.
She has been very vocal when it comes to her thoughts on the Spice Girls making a comeback and claimed it will only work if all five original members take to the stage together.
Shutting down a reunion: Mel C insisted the girl band (pictured above in 1997) shouldn't reform unless all five members agreed to do so, she said: 'Our individuality is our strength, so with somebody missing, it’s not complete'
The pop star told The Irish Times: 'I'm not saying that I would never perform with the girls again because you really don’t know what the future holds – but at this point, I think it really only could be five.
'Our individuality is our strength, so with somebody missing, it’s not complete... I know lots of bands historically have got back together to make a few quid, or whatever... but to me, Spice Girls is more important than that.'
Geri, Emma and Mel B, meanwhile, had joined together as a three-piece and recorded new music material under the name GEM.
While their plans to reform as a trio hit the back burner, Geri recently revealed that their reunion is back on track now Mel B has split from her estranged husband of ten years Stephen Belafonte.

'Now he's out of the way, fun will return': Sources have claimed the trio's plans to reform the Spice Girls is back on following Mel B's split from estranged husband Stephen Belafonte
The duo are currently locked in a bitter divorce battle, but Geri had teased to The Sun: 'We’re not re-forming immediately, but in the near future.'
Her confirmation was backed up by a source, who revealed that Stephen's 'oppressive behaviour' towards Mel had been a deciding factor in the previously-held talks of a reunion being shelved.
The source commented: 'Stephen was always an unnerving presence. Now he’s out of the way, fun will return.'
MailOnline has contacted representatives for Mel B for comment.
It had also been reported, meanwhile, that Geri had backed out of the reunion following the birth of her second child - son Montague who she shares with husband Christian Horner - in January.
Back in their hey dey: Spice Girls (pictured in 1995 at the BRIT Awards) hold the world record for the most number of weeks at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart by a girl band for over 20 years now
