My £31,000 diamond and gold watch, by revolutionary Redgrave: Actress raises eyebrows after saying timepiece is one of 'my favourite things'
She is a former leader of the Trotskyist Workers’ Revolutionary Party and shared a platform last year with Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn at a Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament rally.
But it doesn’t prevent screen siren Dame Vanessa Redgrave from enjoying the trappings of wealth.
In the latest Country Life, she will raise eyebrows among her comrades-in-arms after singling out a £31,000 watch as one of ‘my favourite things’.

‘I’m a stickler for time-keeping and being on time,’ she says.
‘I have a habit of losing watches, as I usually have to take them on and off for different parts and costume changes, so I won’t be letting this new IWC Da Vinci out of my sight.’ The red gold timepiece — encrusted with diamonds — comes from high-end Swiss brand the International Watch Company Schaffhausen, which describes itself as a leader in luxury watchmaking since 1868.
Redgrave, 80, is billed as a ‘friend’ of IWC on the company website and attended one of its corporate events in January.
Not that the Oscar-winner discloses this in Country Life.
A spokesman for IWC tells me: ‘Vanessa Redgrave attended a gala dinner in Geneva as a guest of IWC Schaffhausen earlier this year and is a Fellow of the British Film Institute, one of IWC’s key film partners.’
The actress daughter of Sir Michael Redgrave is an alumna of Queen’s Gate school in South Kensington, West London, alma mater of the Duchess of Cornwall. Over the years she has supported the Workers’ Revolutionary Party — standing for the far-Left group in two general elections — the Palestine Liberation Organisation and the defence of an IRA bomber.
When Corbyn became Labour leader in September 2012, she hailed his victory as the ‘English Spring’ in reference to the series of anti-government uprisings in North Africa and the Middle East, which were dubbed the Arab Spring.
‘It’s the English version and it’s greatly to be welcomed,’ she said.
‘I’ve known him for years and he’s a thoroughly honest man of huge integrity. It’s pretty great to have a politician rise to prominence who has integrity.’
Now she can add luxury watchmaker IWC to her list of worthy causes.
The Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, is a supporter of York City, but will not be praying for the team ahead of their FA Trophy final at Wembley against Macclesfield Town next month. ‘We may not be in the Premier League, yet, but what we may lack in world-class skill, we make up for with enthusiasm and perseverance,’ he says. ‘I can’t really pray for my side to win — for that would imply, wrongly, that God has favourites.’

Silent Witness star Emilia Fox, 42, so likes her £350 Miranda Dunn pink faux fur coat with her surname emblazoned on the back that she commissioned a matching one for her six-year-old daughter, Rose.
Emilia says she often gets stopped at the school gates by other mothers asking about it.
The actress — who is divorced from late actor Richard Harris’s son Jared and estranged from Rose’s dad, actor Jeremy Gilley — captions the snap: ‘Fox and Cub in Happy coats. So gorgeous!’

Is BBC2 controller Patrick Holland bitter that BBC1 has nabbed his hit shows Line Of Duty and The Real Marigold Hotel?
‘I simply wouldn’t be human if I didn’t look wistfully at how those shows are performing at their new home,’ he admits after a BBC party honouring the Corporation’s Bafta nominees. ‘Talking to the talent, I did feel slightly like a boyfriend whose partner has gone off with someone else.’
