Day care worker, 60, is shot and killed in a case of 'mistaken identity' by driver who opened fire on the building while children were inside

A caretaker at an in-home day care center was shot and killed Thursday in what Little Rock police are calling a case of mistaken identity.

Shirley Jackson, 60, was gunned down in front of her home by a driver, who opened fire while children were still inside, KATV reported.

Authorities say at least nine children and three adults were at the day care when the shooting took place.

Police believe the intended target was down the road. 

Investigators at the scene found over 32 shell casings in front of the home.

Authorities said a silver car was seen speeding away in the moments after the shooting.

The shooting took place at around the same time that police were responding to a report of another shooting across town.

One man suffered at least one gunshot wound to his back. He is expected to recover.

Another man was shot in the second incident, though there is no word as to the extent of his injuries.
