Mississippi sheriff's deputy claims R. Kelly had a five-year affair with his wife that led to their divorce and left him in financial ruin

  • Bryant claims that R. Kelly seduced his wife and began a five-year affair with her
  • The affair led the wife, Asia Childress to file for divorce from Bryant

Singer R. Kelly is being sued by a Mississippi sheriff's deputy who claims the singer had a five-year affair with his wife, resulting in the end of their marriage.

Kenny Bryant, a cop from Hinds County, claims in court papers that his wife, Asia Childress, met R. Kelly at one of his concerts in 2012.

Before the couple married on July 15, 2012, Bryant claims Childress started a relationship with the recording artist, according to WAPT-TV.

She assured her husband that the relationship had ended, but Bryant says in the lawsuit that the affair was rekindled just a few months later.

Bryant then claims his wife persuaded him to move to Atlanta so that she could pursue career opportunities.

Bryant says he quit his sheriff's deputy job and agreed to relocate.

But he later suspected that his wife's real motive in moving was to continue her affair.

The plaintiff says that the move to Atlanta led him to 'financial ruin' because he was unable to find meaningful employment.

'Each time R. Kelly would have a concert in a nearby state, Childress would disappear to unite with her lover,' the lawsuit said.

'Time after time, R. Kelly cuckolded Bryant, with blatant disregard for Bryant's and Childress' vows.'

Bryant claims that his efforts to rehabilitate the marriage failed because he 'could not prevail against R. Kelly's continued sexual overtures to Childress.'

Childress has filed for divorce from Bryant.

Born Robert Kelly, the singer, who is known for hit songs such as 'I Believe I Can Fly,' has had a checkered legal history.

In 2002, he was sued by a 17-year-old girl who claimed that he impregnated her and then forced her to have an abortion that he paid for, according to MTV News.

R. Kelly avoided jail time after he was acquitted of felony counts of child pornography stemming from accusations that he allegedly had sex with several underage girls.

In some instances, those sexual encounters were videotaped.

In total, R. Kelly has been accused of sexually abusing close to two dozen women whom he met when they were in their teens.
