FaceApp offers a glimpse of things to come with filters that show how celebrities might age - and even what they could look like as a different sex.

The filters can be applied to the image in seconds - sometimes with dramatic results.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The app is available on iOS and Android and is free to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Users can edit existing photos or take new ones using the camera.

Using algorithms the app transforms photos in a matter of seconds.

As well as making people look younger, older and of a different gender the app also lets users modify their photos by adding smiles.

The smart software, which was created by Saint-Petersburg-based designers, allows you to transform someone's face within seconds.

We tried out it on household names such as Donald Trump, Kim Kardashian and David Beckham.

Our findings suggest Kate Middleton will age with grace and Kylie Jenner will look increasingly like her mum Kris Jenner.

The software revealed that Donald Trump was a cute child, but the US president is not too dissimilar from his normal self with the female filter.

FaceApps's creators claim it will 'transform your face using Artificial Intelligence', allowing selfie-takers to alter their photos to look old or 'beautify' themselves.

The app attracts around 700,000 new users each day.

It is available on iOS and Android and is free to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

IS FACEAPP RACIST?

Earlier this week the app's creators were criticised for being racist.

Users complained after they found that one beautifying option, labelled 'hot', lightens skin tone.

'We are deeply sorry for this unquestionably serious issue,' wrote Mr Yaroslav Goncharov, the creator and CEO of FaceApp.

'It is an unfortunate side-effect of the underlying neural network caused by the training set bias, not intended behaviour', he said.

'To mitigate the issue, we have renamed the effect to exclude any positive connotation associated with it', he said.

Those who download the app now will find that the 'hot' filter has been renamed 'spark'.

Mr Goncharov added that his team is 'working on the complete fix that should arrive soon.'
