Monday night marked the first time in four years that she attended the Met Gala without her rapper husband, Kanye West, by her side.

And after Kim Kardashian, 36, left the fashion-focused festivities, it appears that she had quite the low-key night, as she took to social media to share a snapshot of herself relaxing solo on a large white sofa as she scrolled through her phone.

Still wearing her white off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood gown from the high profile bash, she also uploaded an image showing her enjoying a loving embrace from her younger half-sister Kylie Jenner as she sat at the edge of a bed.

Solo: Kim Kardashian shared a shot of herself relaxing solo after Monday night's Met Gala

The images - captioned 'After Met' and 'After After Met' - were among a stream of uploads to her Twitter and Instagram accounts of her night out in New York City.

One snap uploaded from the bash showed her posing alongside Donatella Versace, Bella Hadid and her sister Kylie, along with the caption: 'Girl power last night! Happy Birthday to the queen @donatella_versace.'

And, as she enjoyed her coveted seat alongside pop superstar Rihanna and Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing, the trio got together for a shot, which was captioned: 'With the baddest... Rih's the definition of the Met!'

For the first time since 2013, when she and Kanye, 39, made their Met Gala debut, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star was without her loved one.

The musician and fashion designer, who was hospitalised for mental health reasons late last year, opted to skip the proceedings this year, after months of shying away from high profile events.

Ahead of the gala, held at the Big Apple's Metropolitan Museum of Art, a source told People magazine: 'It had nothing to do with the Met Gala. It was more about the stress and pressure of a big red carpet. He just wasn’t quite there yet.'

According to the source, the star remained in Los Angeles with the couple's two children: daughter North and son Saint.

Kim was back in Los Angeles on Wednesday and back to the grind sharing some early morning workout snaps.

Meanwhile, Kim took to her website ahead of the big gala to share three behind-the-scenes shots from her appearance at the 2015 Met Gala.

'For the 2015 Met Gala, I wore a custom Roberto Cavalli gown by Peter Dundas,' the reality TV star began.

Kim, who herself has been recovering from the trauma of enduring an armed recovery in Paris in October, added: 'I was two months pregnant with Saint at the time, so I was trying to hide it.'

This year's gala theme was Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art Of The In-Between, an exhibit that examines the work of the famed 74-year-old Japanese fashion designer over the span of 40-some years.
