Zoe is 'overcome with grief' after Billy Yates was discovered by a friend at his flat in Putney, south London , yesterday evening. Paramedics arrived minutes later but were unable to revive Mr Yates who was pronounced dead at the scene. One friend said this was not the first time he had tried to kill himself, adding: 'He had tried this before by crashing his car.'

NEW The 27-year-old holidaymaker went missing just after midday during a swim with his partner off a beach in the Gran Canaria tourist resort of Playa del Ingles. Rescuers found his body some 200 metres from the shoreline after a desperate four hour search. The tragedy comes less than a day after a 30-year-old man died after being hit by a wave near a popular sea cave in Puerto Santiago on Tenerife's west coast.

Theresa May is on course for a general election landslide after pummelling Labour and crushing Ukip at the local polls. The Tories recorded a stunning series of results yesterday, picking up 560 seats in every part of the country - including Labour marginals in the North, the Welsh valleys and even Scotland. Ukip was routed, with voters deserting to the Tories in their droves in an emphatic endorsement of the Prime Minister's approach to Brexit. XXXXX' This message, discovered by a judge by chance when the album was handed in as evidence during an historic family court case, helped stopped Effie being taken away and adopted. For the judge said it provided proof of the devotion of Carla and her partner Craig to Effie even though the pair were facing accusations of violently shaking their daughter and nearly killing her.

An animal rescue charity has admitted covering up the death of one of the star attractions at its zoo. Colin the spectacled caiman allegedly died after keepers left him in an outside enclosure during cold weather. But for nearly a month, a notice on his enclosure told visitors the 7ft reptile had been rehomed. Colin was at least 36 years old and was from a species from Central and South America closely related to alligators and crocodiles. The zoo, Beaver Water World in Tatsfield, Surrey, says he was found dead on April 9. 1. Footage allegedly shows founder Stella Quayle (bottom left) poking the body with a broom. 2. Other staff at the charity move in to cover the windows of Colin's enclosure. 3. A large wooden box thought to contain the caiman is carried out. 4. The wooden crate can later be seen in the back of a pick-up truck, which is driven off.

Anna Hayes, a high school senior from Lake Village, Arkansas attended prom last week with a male friend, Phillip Freeman - who happens to be black. When her father - whom she does not live with - saw the photos, he was livid, and sent her a long tirade of racist, sexist text messages telling Anna that he was disowning her and calling both her and her date heartbreakingly offensive names. Nicholas Green was just seven years old when ruthless killers shot him dead during a family holiday in Italy in a random act of horror in 1994. His selfless parents Maggie and Reg donated Nicholas' heart to Andrea Mongiardo, a Roman teenage boy in desperate need of a transplant. The act of kindness kept Mr Mongiardo alive for 22 more years until he died in February - meaning their beloved son's heart only stopped beating this year. But the American couple did not stop there - Nicholas' organs went on to save the lives of five Italians and his corneas saved the sight of two others. The gesture, as well as national horror at the random murder of a child, led to Italy's organ donation rate tripling in a decade - a result hailed as the 'Nicholas effect'.

A porn star was left needing 20 stitches on a bloody gash after a lemon shark bit her while she was filming a promo for an adult entertainment company. Steven Candelaria, 24, (pictured) broke into an Albuquerque home by squeezing in through the doggie door (right) while the dog named Luna, ran and hid from the intruder. Candelaria can be seen on the home surveillance footage quickly walking through the house, picking up several items (left). Police were able to arrest Candelaria after tracking one of the stolen tablets to his father's house. He has since been released on bond.

A western Australian man has filmed himself opening a VB with a crab's claw. In the footage a man is seen reaching into his chilly bin where a crab is waiting. He puts his arm in and meets the crab's reach before it yanks off his bottle top. The video has gone viral raking up over 15,000 shares and 1.3 million views.

At the Pokemon World Festival there are serious repercussions for giving a deflating performance. The performer was centre stage in front of hundreds of spectators for a big dance medley. It started off according to the plan with the team of 15 dancers cheerfully waddling around to Mark Ronson's 'Uptown Funk'. But disaster struck during the Hairspray track, 'You Can't Stop the beat', when the main dancer's costume sprung a leak and began deflating.

Every year diggers and snowploughs are sent to the Trollstigen serpentine pass in Rauma Municipality to make it usable for the summer season. The road connects the town of Andalsnes with the village of Vallda and is noted for its spectacular views. It is vulnerable to avalanches and for this reason the pass is closed by the Norwegian authorities in the winter.

The driver can be seen chasing after the vehicle along with a passerby in astonishing dashcam footage of the incident near Maidstone in Kent. The silver car ends up halfway up a tree after miraculously avoiding two lanes of stop-start traffic as it rolls at speed down the steep road. The driverless motor clips the sloping edge of a crash barrier which launches it high into the tree. In the clip the car is seen being chased by a man and a woman - thought to be the driver and a passerby.
