From the Night’s Watch to MI5: Game Of Thrones’ Kit Harington stars as a secret agent in Spooks: The Greater Good

By Hanna Flint

Kit Harington is swapping swords and armour for handguns and spy gadgets as he begins filming for the big screen spin-off of the BBC’s Spooks.

The Game Of Thrones star – who has played Jon Snow in the HBO series for the last four years – has taken on the role of Will Crombie, the young protégé of MI5 chief Sir Harry Pearce, played by Peter Firth who is reprising his role for the film.

Called Spooks: The Greater Good, Kit and Peter, with the rest of the crew, are currently filming at Pinewood Studios and across London.

The focus of this story, written by Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent, will be on the disappearance of Pearce following the escape of terrorist Adam Qasim.

With the MI5 chief believed to be involved in the failed handover after he vanishes one night off a bridge into the Thames, the agency enlists former officer Will Crombie to find his rogue mentor before Qasim’s attack on London takes place.

Zero Dark Thirty and Ides Of March star Jennifer Ehle, Tuppence Middleton (The Imitation Game, Jupiter Ascending, Danny Boyle's Trance), Tim McInnerny (Spooks, Blackadder, Notting Hill), Eleanor Matsuura (Utopia, The Fades) and Elyes Gabel (Interstellar, World War Z) make up the supporting cast.

Spooks’ Bharat Nalluri returns to the director’s chair in the cinematic spin-off and will be produced by Kudos' Jane Featherstone and Stephen Garrett, as well as Shine's Ollie Madden.

The BBC spy series ran for nine years from 2002 to 2011, and featured a slew of well-known British actors including Matthew Macfadyen, David Oyelowo, Keeley Hawes, Jenny Agutter, Rupert Penry-Jones, Richard Armitage, Sophia Myles and Lara Pulver.

This isn’t the only type of Spook Kit, 27, will be working with though, as he was cast in the movie Seventh Son which is loosely based on the novel The Spook's Apprentice by Joseph Delaney.

Harington plays Billy Bradley in the fantasy film which follows Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) a seventh son of a seventh son who can see supernatural beings and so becomes an apprentice to the Spook (Jeff Bridges) to help battle these demons.

Later this year, Kit will also star in the BBC’s TV movie Testament Of Youth, as part of their World War I commemoration programming.

The actor plays Roland Leighton, the fiancé of Vera Brittain (Alicia Vikander) who deferred her studies at Oxford University during WWI to serve as a Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse, and later became a writer and a pacifist.

Spooks: The Greater Good will be released in cinemas everywhere in 2015.

Very excited about the film. Chuffed Kit is in it. Wish Lucas North could come back from the dead and surprise us all! Not the same without Richard Armitage in it!

Elyes Gabel was also in GOT - he was Rakharo, one of Danaerys's Khal. Met a grisly end before they arrived in Mereen.

I cannot stop watching the whole series. Peter Firth is a great actor and quite handsome too. I can't wait to see this , at least there is something to anticipate this year on the telly !

Love Jon Snow but Kit can be boring. Seems like he has but one expression. Also, without his facial hair he looks like a 12 yr. old.
