This is the shocking moment the crazed driver behind the deadly crash in New York City's Times Square tried to flee police (left) with flailing arms after plowing a car (bottom right) into pedestrians for three blocks. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Richard Rohas of the Bronx, was dramatically taken into custody on Thursday after crashing into pedestrians on the sidewalk, killing an 18-year-old girl (top right) and seriously injuring 22 others. Police said Rohas got into a fistfight with an officer as they struggled to arrest him (top left), before he was eventually tackled to the ground and bundled into a squad car. Rojas, a US military veteran who has a criminal history including two DWIs, reportedly told police he had been smoking marijuana before the incident occurred.

Car hits New York's Times Square pedestrians killing one

The NYPD has confirmed that an 18-year-old girl was the only fatality in the horrific Times Square collision that saw 22 people - including the woman's 13-year-old sister - injured. The woman, identified by sources as Alyssa Elsman (pictured top and inset), was walking through the heart of Midtown Manhattan when a driver believed to be Richard Rojas (bottom left), 26, of the Bronx, mounted the curb and ploughed through crowds at high speed for three and a half blocks before crashing. Rojas, a US military veteran who has a criminal history including two DWIs, reportedly told police he had been smoking marijuana before the incident occurred. Of the 22 people hurt, the NYPD said that four people had been critically injured with open fractures and multiple traumas and three others were seriously injured - all were hospitalized. Some 15 more were not seriously injured, and were not hospitalized.

KATIE HOPKINS on BBC's child sex abuse drama

I don't know if it is cowardice or self-preservation. But grooming gangs are something we would prefer not to talk about. We've even given them a polite-sounding name, like something to do with hair care or personal maintenance, and look away. Talk about something else. Little wonder then that we have been finding the BBC documentary on grooming gangs, Three Girls, too painful to watch. On Wednesday night Ruby learned she was pregnant at the hands of the gang. After her abortion, police kept the terminated foetus in a freezer. It was a scene that shocked viewers. Some felt sick and had to turn off, writes KATIE HOPKINS. Pictured left: Liv Hill, Molly Windsor and Ria Zmitrowicz, as Ruby, Holly and Amber, and who are groomed and abused in BBC drama Three Girls.

Theresa May invokes spirit of Churchill and Thatcher as she vows to take on 'selfish' big business and unveils plans to pump billions extra into schools and the NHS to help ordinary working families - but warns of hard choices ahead

Contrasting her approach with Labour's unfunded spending splurge, the Prime Minister said she would not shy away from making 'hard choices' to turn the country into a 'great meritocracy'. In a bold pitch for working class support, Mrs May bluntly stated that the next few years would not be 'easy' and appealed for an end to 'tribal' attitudes that have divided the nation. In return she promised a 'new contract' that would expand opportunity more widely, end the domination of elites, and ease the impact of mass immigration.

Despite failing to meet the pledge in the past the Conservative manifesto promises to cut migration to the tens of thousands for the third successive election.

The League Against Cruel Sports said there was 'no justification' for scrapping the law against hunting with dogs. Theresa May announced her plans for a vote at the Tory manifesto launch.

But the man he thought would kill his wife actually secretly recorded their conversations and handed the audio over to police. At one point Harris can be heard coldly telling the 'hitman' he would owe him a 'big drink' after his wife was killed. Astonishingly, when he arrested by police, Ms Allinson stood by her husband and even considered giving evidence in his defence.

A medical examiner confirmed that the 52-year-old rocker, who was found dead on his bathroom floor with 'a band around his neck' early Thursday morning, had committed suicide.
