Filings for Credit Suisse show its internal risk analysts have downgraded its rating for Britain. At the same time the group's private bank, which serves wealthy clients, has lowered its loan-to-value ratios for residential properties. Sources stressed that the bank's actions would not necessarily mean a reduction in lending to UK property buyers, but could change the type of loans Credit Suisse was prepared to make.

Panic on volatile trading floor as U.S drilling boom sends world crude oil prices plunging by 20%
The oil price has fallen nearly 20 per cent in less than four weeks on the back of a drilling boom in the United States. Crude dropped as low as $46.64 a barrel in London yesterday - its lowest level since November - having been trading above $56 in mid-April. It later recovered but remained below $50 as hedge funds and other speculators abandoned bets on future oil price rises.

TSB's Classic Plus account will pay you 3% interest on up to £1,500 and up to £10-a-month if you maintain two direct debits and make 20 debit card payments each month (until June 2018). You must pay in £500 a month.
First Direct regularly tops polls for customer service. Its First Account offers £100 for joining and has a £250 interest-free overdraft beyond that an authorised overdraft costs 15.9% EAR. You must pay in £1,000 per month.
Santander's 123 account pays 1.5% interest on balances up to £20,000 and also gives 1 to 3% cashback on bills. You need to pay a £5 a month fee, pay in £500 a month and have two active direct debits.
Nationwide's FlexDirect pays 5% interest on up to £2,500 and has a fee-free overdraft. Watch out these are both for the first year only and you must pay in £1,000 a month.
M&S; Bank's current account has a £125 gift card for joining, plus you get an extra £5 a month top up for the year. It has no qualifying criteria.
