A schoolgirl was threatened with isolation because teachers claimed her trousers were too tight.

Chloe Boorer was embarrassed when she turned up to class at The Beacon School in Banstead, Surrey, and was handed a pair of extra-large black trousers to change into - because hers were deemed not baggy enough.

The 15-year-old says she struggles to find a pair that fit because she has 'bigger legs'.

She refused to put the replacement pair on and her mother Emma Watson, 34, took her home in protest, insisting the school is hitting her daughter's self-esteem.

Mother-of-three Ms Watson, a carer from Banstead, said: 'I'm really not happy. It's given her such a complex.

'She's got a thing about her legs and the more they keep on about them the worse it is. Chloe is quite self-conscious of the size of her legs since she has a narrow waist.

'She has been going on diets - which she really doesn't need to since she is skinny. She really worries about her weight and she thinks her legs are fat.'

The school's uniform guideline states that girls must wear 'plain black tailored, loose fitting trousers in a style suitable for school'.

But the teenager says she struggles to find trousers that fit correctly.

She said: 'I have bigger legs than my waist and the trousers cling to me. My waist is size eight to ten and I normally wear this size but I have to wear bigger trousers for school.

'My trousers are size 12 and they are really big on me and I had to make an extra hole in the waistband.'

The school's principal, Russell Bennett, said the 'supervised study area' Chloe was threatened with on September 10 is used to uphold the 'high expectations' of pupil standards.

He said: 'We are proud of our smart uniform at The Beacon School, which represents our high expectations of standards and behaviour.

'If a student is in the incorrect uniform, we contact parents promptly, so that they are able to resolve the matter quickly.

'We provide a supervised study area in school, until the parent has been able to provide the correct uniform, after which the students can return to classes.'
