There has been reports that Mariah Carey and her ex-husband Nick Cannon may be reconciling.

But an Australian publication has now claimed that the Butterfly songstress wants her former fiance James Packer back.

NW magazine alleges that the 47-year-old pop star's short lived romance with back-up singer Bryan Tanaka made her yearn for the Aussie billionaire.

'Being with (Bryan) made her see she has something special with James,' an 'insider' allegedly told the magazine.

'She's told pals she wants him back... Bryan was just a rebound fling to get over James.'

According to TMZ, the pair mutually went their separate ways after a five-month romance, which occurred shortly after her split from former fiancé James.

Sources told the site 33-year-old Bryan struggled with Mariah's close relationship with her ex husband Nick.

They said: 'The last straw came at the Kids' Choice Awards last month, when Nick and Mariah took the twins. We're told Bryan felt the display "disrespected" him and during the event he demanded she came home.'

Mariah was reportedly tired of footing the bills for Bryan's designer clothing, watches and chains.

She is said to have felt that Bryan jumped in after she split from Packer and his endgame was fame.

Meanwhile, People magazine recently reported that Mariah and her ex-husband Nick may be considering giving it another shot.

According to a source, lately 'Mariah and Nick are getting along great.' 

The insider said Mariah is 'great' around Nick, who the source said spends a majority of his time with the pop star and the children. 

'There seems to be hope that they will get back together permanently,' added the source. 

However, a different source was less optimistic about the pair's recent time together, stating 'honestly, they are co-parenting.'

On Tuesday, speaking about the TV host, who she split with in 2014, Mariah told Entertainment Tonight: 'We're together when it counts. We're together for the kids. And I think that's the most important thing.'

'We both love kids and we're co-parenting because that's the only way to do it.'

And Nick admitted Mariah is still his dream girl but maintained that just being friends is what works for them right now.
