Harry, 32, stepped away from the star-studded crowd to enjoy a tender moment with the American actress as he and Prince William, 34, took part in the Audi Polo Challenge in Ascot, Berkshire.

Meghan, 35, who kept a low-profile in a pair of dark sunglasses, appeared to share a few words with the prince as he pulled her close for a hug.

Harry and Miss Markle also attended the first day of matches on Saturday, marking their first public appearance as a couple.

The outings, which saw Miss Markle being introduced to some of Harry's closest confidants, give yet another sign of the seriousness of their relationship.

Indeed the pair looked completely besotted as they gazed into each other's eyes yesterday. Miss Markle placed a hand affectionately on Harry's back as he leaned in towards her for a hug.

It is not clear where Meghan watched the match from yesterday but no doubt she enjoyed seeing Harry and William show off their considerable skill.

Actresses Emma Stone and Gemma Arterton were among the stars who gathered for the match, which is one of the first events of the summer social calendar.

On Saturday Miss Markle seemed completely at ease as she stood clapping and talking next to Harry's mentor, Mark Dyer, a former Army officer, while the prince demonstrated his sporting prowess.

The 35-year-old looked stunning in a navy blue dress with an asymmetric hem, chic white jacket and ankle-tie stilettos.

A source close to Harry said: 'Dyer's opinion is important to Harry. Mark adored Harry's former girlfriends Cressida Bonas and Chelsy Davy – but he really likes Meghan. They have been getting on like a house on fire.'

The event is a regular on Harry's calendar. This year it was raising funds for two of the charities he champions, Sentebale and WellChild.
