'Darling, Did you get a DUI? "If only!": Kenny Goss reveals the aftermath of George Michael's infamous arrest for a sex act in a LA toilet...as he admits he wasn't 'angry' over 'moment of madness'

He previously discussed that when his long-term love George Michael passed away on Christmas Day aged 53, he was left 'heartbroken'.

And now his former flame Kenny Goss has broken his silence over the late popstar's notorious arrest in a public toilet in Beverly Hills 19 years ago.

The Texan art dealer - who dated the music icon for 15 years - described the moment he was contacted by George in prison after he was incarcerated for lewd conduct by an undercover police officer, mistakenly assuming he had been booked for drink-driving.

Recalling the April day in 1998 to The Sun's Michael Hamilton and Jane Atkinson, Goss, 58, admitted the pair had enjoyed lunch together, where he admittedly revealed the singer a 'bit to drink'.

Having left separately, he explained he had received a message from George later in the day asking him to call the Beverly Hills Police.

He told the newspaper: 'They bring [George] to the phone and I say ‘Darling, what happened? Did you get a DUI?’ (Driving under the influence). He says "If only!"'

Kenny revealed George was going 'stir crazy' as he bailed him out of the police station and still had no idea what he had been arrested for until they got to their home.

The music star was later fined £500 and sentenced to 80 hours community service for the indiscretion.

Reflecting on the chaos, he insisted he wasn't angry at George but they simply moved on, with the singer, then 34, going public about his sexuality and his relationship with Kenny, which began two years previous.

Kenny added: 'I wasn't angry. I didn't say, "What were you doing, or who the f*** does something like that, or I'm leaving you." We moved on.... I thought it was a moment of madness.

'It outed him and it outed me. He hadn’t told the public. What a way to do so. It turned into a positive thing though.'

The experience allowed George to record hit Outside - which poked fun at his arrest and celebrated his sexuality - and film the tongue and cheek video of him dressed in a cop's uniform while dancing around a public toilet.

Despite his infamous 1998 arrest, George would end up having a number of brushes with the law.

George was cautioned for cannabis possession in February 2006 after he was found slumped at the wheel of his car in London’s Hyde Park Corner then arrested in a public toilet near his North London home in Hampstead Heath in September 2008.

At the time, he was cautioned for possession of crack cocaine and cannabis while in July 2010, he notoriously crashed his car yards from the public bathroom he was arrested in two years previous and into a Snappy Snaps in Hampstead.

Confessing to driving under the influence and using cannabis and was subsequently jailed for eight weeks in prison.

Kenny and George were together from 1996 until 2011, and broke up in part due to substance abuse and alcoholism - something they both suffered from.

In March, Kenny opened up to Dallas Morning News, about the couple's relationship, which ended in 2009 and was announced in 2011.

He said: 'We just had a really good, sweet relationship. We weren't even mad at each other or anything like that. He was truly the love of my life. And I think I was the love of his life.'

In the wake of the 53-year-old singer's sudden death on Christmas Day, Kenny issued a moving statement, mourning his former lover.

'I'm heartbroken with the news that my dear friend and longtime love George Michael has passed,' he wrote.
