This is the moment Eamonn Holmes appeared to flick the V-sign at a member of his This Morning crew while live on air.

The TV presenter was in the middle of an interview when he appeared to make the gesture at an off-screen colleague, unaware he was on camera.

Seconds before, the 55-year-old had shaken his head in frustration, pulled a face and looked on the verge of an outburst.

But Holmes later claimed that he had only made the gesture in a bid to communicate with a producer.

Explaining to viewers what had happened, he repeatedly stuck up his two fingers, insisting it was a symbol to show he had been talking about camera number two.

He told viewers: 'Twitter is in a frenzy over the interview we just did. Apparently because of the way the interview was shot you picked up on a bit of studio language going on.'

Making the gesture again, he said: 'Apparently people are mistaking - not understanding - technical jargon and me doing this, this mean camera two - this means two on a two.

'Just to put you out of your misery incase you thought there was something more Harvey Smith inclined.'

Reiterating his point again, he made the sign for the second time and added: 'We now have two on a four - but two on a two would be this.'

The 55-year-old, pictured onscreen with his wife Ruth Langsford, later explained that he had made the gesture in a bid to communicate with a producer about which camera he should be on
