UK leader pledges to send help to France to control migrants
LONDON (AP) — Prime Minister David Cameron is pledging to send dogs and fencing to France to help control the surge in migrants trying to cross into Britain nightly.
Cameron chaired an emergency security meeting Friday just after returning from a trip to Asia. He says he will speak later in the day with French President Francois Hollande and that Britain will offer practical resources.
Cameron says Britain will also do all it can on its side of the border to reduce disruption, including allowing the use of Ministry of Defense land to ease congestion near the Channel Tunnel.
Cameron says: "This is going to be a difficult issue right across the summer."
Thousands of migrants have been scaling fences near the tunnel, hopping on freight trains or trucks destined for Britain.
