Her outings in public have been few and far between after a tumultuous year of feuding and heartbreak.

And it turns out Taylor Swift's break from the spotlight has been no accident, according to a new report.

The 27-year-old star 'was trying to stay out of the media', a source told Us Weekly of the super star, who the website says is plotting her return as the release of her sixth album begins to take shape.

Last year Taylor feuded publicly with Kim Kardashian and her husband Kanye West over the rapper's song Famous, and broke up with Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston - but the singer is not planning on making her break a permanent one.

'Taylor's been quietly recording new music for a couple a months,' a source told the magazine. 'She's aiming to release an album this fall.'

The hit-maker hasn't been making new music in higher-profile arenas, with a source telling Us she 'hasn't been in any of the bigger studios in Nashville, New York, L.A., or London.'

The end of Taylor's high-profile, three-month long relationship with Tom marked the beginning of her retreat from the public eye.

Taylor did squeeze in some time for work earlier this year in January, filming the music video for her and Zayn Malik's song, I Don't Want To Live Forever.

But even then, she took some measures to ensure she wouldn't be spotted.

'She went directly to her private jet at two in the morning and flew out of town,' said a source.

An insider also added Taylor started utilizing a large golf umbrella to avoid being photographed.

Aside from working with Zayn, a source told the magazine that the popstrel's been taking 'some much-needed time off.'

She did perform in February at a pre-Super Bowl concert - a rare sighting for the pop star.

But Taylor is aware her fans are waiting for more new music and has 'really started focusing on making that happen for fans', and is even planning an upcoming tour.

'She's just excited to get back out there,' said the source.

It comes as E! reports the hit maker has reportedly been writing and recording for her new LP in a studio in Nashville after months off from the spotlight.

A source told the website: 'Taylor has been working on it around the clock and will be making an announcement soon.'

'She is really excited about her new music and can't wait to share it with her fans,' the source continued.

'She has been entirely focused on that and not much else. She has been 100 percent dedicated to making music the last few months and that's it.'
