'Dark times call for dark hair': Olivia Wilde shows off new raven locks as she gets ready for Broadway debut in 1984

She is getting ready to plunge herself into a twisted, dystopian future in her Broadway debut.

So a new haircut was obviously in order for Olivia Wilde after she proudly showed off her newly dyed locks on Instagram on Wednesday.

The movie actress was looking as proud as punch as she attempted to pull off a sultry pose while reclining in the back of a taxi in the striking image.

Explaining her look, the lantern-jawed beauty said: 'Dark times call for dark hair. #1984play.'

Olivia, 33, is preparing to maker her Broadway debut in June. She will star in a stage version of George Orwell's famous novel opposite British actor Tom Sturridge.

The fact she is starring in a play based on the English writer's work may be a little disappointing for the starlet, as she famously changed her name from Cockburn in honour of flamboyant Irish playwright Oscar Wilde.

It seems Olivia is doing her homework as she prepares for the stage, as she was joined by her 31-year-old co-star Tom just over a week ago to catch the performance of The Doll's House, Part 2 that stars Chris Cooper and Laurie Metcalfe.

She has also been busy working on the set of her forthcoming film Life Itself, which tells the story of people from New York to Spain whose lives intersect over the course of different generations.

The sexpot, who once boasted she received a phone call from Barack Obama to personally thank her for helping him get elected, has previously been spotted filming in a black wig, and on another sporting a fake baby bump and fake blonde hair.

Olivia has been engaged to husband-to-be Jason Sudeikis since early 2013, and have yet to tie the knot despite having their second child - a daughter called Daisy - five months ago.

And she may have a while to wait yet, as Hall Pass star Jason previously said: 'We are good in many many ways. I believe that we won't get married until weed is legal in every state.'
