Now that's a bumpy ride! Incredible footage shows cars speeding over makeshift ramp on Greek passenger ferry in choppy seas ... as workers stand on it to hold it down
- Workers stand on the edge of adjustable ramp in stormy conditions
- The high winds and the ramp pose a safety risk to the workers and cars
- Five cars make it onto ferry safely and are fortunate to avoid an accident
It may look like something out of a Fawlty Towers episode but worryingly this outrageous scene is not the work of fiction.
Ferry workers scurry chaotically to stand on an adjustable ramp so that cars can drive safely into a passenger ferry battling a chopping sea in high winds in Greece.
There is no device to keep the makeshift ramp - thought to be made out of old rope - fixed to the ground, and three employees try to stand on it to weigh it down.
Out of control: The two men struggle to keep their balance as the ramp blows in the strong prevailing winds
Just as the car passes safely through the wind lifts the makeshift ramp marginally off the ground
The footage, uploaded on to YouTube by a Greek user under the headline 'And that's how we load ferries in Greece', shows cars being driven erratically over the carpets - in an attempt to board the ferry before the large waves makes the vessel rise again.
In an incident that shows a disregard for health and safety, two of the workers lose their footing at various stages and are lucky not to be blown off.
Unfortunately the high winds make it impossible for the three men to keep the adjustable ramp, which is supposed to stay horizontal, from blowing dangerously off the ground and up into the air.
Success: Another car manages to enter the car ferry safely despite the chaotic scenes
High winds: During the video three men stand on the ramp but it still blows up in the air

The lifting adjustable ramp not only poses a significant risk to the five motorists who try to drive over it but it also creates a highly dangerous situation for the employees.
Luckily the motorists manage to make it onto the ferry without being involved in an accident or inflicting any damage to their vehicles.
On reddit, user docpapas explained: 'The "carpets" (made of old rope rolled up) are there to soften the difference between the ramp and the car under normal circumstances works quite well.
'The two dudes standing there are officers following embarkation procedure. The Fat dude is a technician, who's doing his best to load as fast as possible (delays are fined).
'And more importantly more than 90 per cent of ferries in Aegean has its [sic] own ramp so why build ramps and force most boats to suddenly undergo expensive plastic surgery?'
