'We've gotten to a really great place!': Ryan Phillippe is 'proud' of the way he and ex-wife Reese Witherspoon co-parent their two children

They were married for eight years and have two children together.

And Ryan Phillippe couldn't be more 'proud' of how he and Reese Witherspoon have handled co-parenting duties since their divorce in 2007.

In an interview on HuffPost Live, the 40-year-old said the two have 'gotten to a really great place' and even spend time together as a family from time to time.

Ryan revealed getting to where they could raise their kids amicably was 'a feeling out process.'

'I think we've gotten to a really great place … It's going well, and she's happy and remarried, and our kids are incredible,' said the Lincoln Lawyer star.

'I'm proud of the way we've handled it and who our little people are.'

Parents to 15-year-old daughter Ava and 10-year-old son Deacon, the former couple recently enjoyed a family outing together.

'She was just in New York doing press for Gone Girl and Wild and we got to meet up as a family and took a walk through Central Park with the kids,' the actor recounted.

'We were reminiscing then because we shot a lot of Cruel Intentions [there], so there we were with Ava and Deacon talking, and they were tripping out on the fact that we were there shooting a movie before they were even a thought in our minds,' Ryan said of the 1999 film he and Reese worked on together.

Following their divorce, Reese dated Jake Gyllenhaal before marrying talent agent Jim Toth in 2011, with whom she has two-year-old son Tennessee.

Ryan was linked to his Stop-Loss co-star Abbie Cornish for several years before starting a relationship with actress Alexis Knapp. After their break-up, Alexis found out she was pregnant and gave birth to their daughter Kailani in 2011.

He is currently dating 23-year-old law student Paulina Slagter.

As far as his career, Ryan makes his directorial debut with his new film Catch Hell, in theatres on Friday. He'll also star on the ABC mid-season series Secrets & Lies with Juliette Lewis.
