Product Description

Zoloft (sertraline) belongs to an extensive group of anti-depressant drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Sertraline works by affecting the chemicals which might be unbalanced in the brain as a result of obsessive-compulsive symptoms, depression, anxiety, or panic.

Drug data

The main chemical in Zoloft is Sertraline. You can find a lot of other generic Sertraline medicines which provide the same results as of Zoloft. Some inactive elements might differ between generic and brand medicine. These elements would not alter the effectiveness of the drug.

Sertraline and other chemicals in the Zoloft are approved by FDA and many other governing bodies. If the generic medicine you choose has any inactive chemical that is not approved by FDA, you might have some additional side effects.

Zoloft is used to treat posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, panic disorder, obsession, anxiety disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder, especially for adults.

For children in the age bracket of 6-10 years, Zoloft is applicable in the treatment of OCD. But, it is better to take a doctor’s advice before you start using it or continuing it beyond the time prescribed by the doctor.

A person with seizure, kidney disease or liver problem should visit a physician before commencing any Zoloft dosage regimen so as to prevent any reaction that would lead to more harm.

Zoloft also causes adverse effect to unborn child or lactating baby. Thus, it should not be consumed by lactating mothers or pregnant women.

Dosage

Zoloft is available in the dosage strengths of 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg in tablet form, or as an oral concentrate. Follow the doctor’s instructions and also the information on the prescription label while consuming Zoloft.

Do not alter the dose in any manner without consultation. Zoloft may be taken either with or without food, preferably at the same time every day for effective results.

It may take around four weeks to see significant improvement in your condition. Do not stop Zoloft abruptly without a proper taper as otherwise it can cause unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.
